“Fashion has always been part of my world. My mom is a stylist, so I grew up watching her work on shoots for people like Justin Timberlake and Halle Berry. All my friends wanted to be doctors or veterinarians, but I only ever wanted to be a model—and specifically, a Victoria’s Secret Angel. I remember watching the Victoria’s Secret shows every year, pausing the TV, and pretending it was me walking the runway. I talked about it so much that my mom’s only hope was that I’d be tall enough to actually pursue it. Luckily, I was. After I signed with IMG Models, I walked my very first show for Calvin Klein—that was the catapult for everything I’ve been able to achieve since.
Throughout my time modelling, companies would approach me about starting a beauty brand, but I didn’t want to just slap my name on something. I’ve always said that if modeling hadn’t worked out, I would have liked to have been a makeup artist or a hairstylist, just to stay in this world. Then I met Sabrina [Castenfelt]. We bonded over our shared love of beauty and started talking about creating something together—that became Brunel, which we launched with three body oils. I’ve used oils my whole life, but I know people can be hesitant to use them because so many are greasy or sticky. Ours dry down quickly, feel silky, and smell beautiful—and beyond that, they’re packed with active ingredients like vitamin C to brighten the skin.
SKINCARE
I have pretty normal skin—it’s not too dry or too oily—but I’m always dealing with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Most of my treatments are in some way trying to address that. I tried treating the hyperpigmentation with peels, but they never quite worked for me. It wasn’t until a year ago that I heard about the Picosure laser. I’m obsessed now. It takes away every mark I don’t want. The important thing to know about lasers is that they can create more issues on darker skin tones, so you have to be careful about who you see. I drive about an hour and 15 minutes to see Dr. Suchismita Paul, the founder of Balanced Skin Dermatology and Aesthetics, in Newport Beach—she’s that good. I also get hydrafacials with her every month.
Product-wise, I became obsessed with the Caudalíe Vinoclean cleansing oil recently. It melts away every bit of makeup without being sticky or leaving any sort of weird residue. It’s just easy. Sometimes I’ll use the Elemis Pro-Collagen balm instead. It makes me feel like I just left the spa when I use it. Then I’ll go into the Kora foaming cleanser. My skin feels a little cool to the touch after I use it.
I was in the mood to switch up my skincare a couple of months ago, and I saw that people were raving about the Anua Rice 70 toner on TikTok. They said it’s really gentle, and that caught my attention because I don’t like using harsh products. It has a milky consistency, but it’s really light. Then I layer on a couple of serums: the Sulwhasoo First Care Activating serum, the Sulwhasoo Ginseng Renewing serum, and the La Mer Concentrate, which leaves my skin feeling like silk and makes my makeup look so beautiful.
I switch between moisturizers. La Mer’s has been a staple for a long time—I used to steal my mom’s. It’s so creamy. I learned that you’re supposed to take a dollop of it, rub it in your palm to warm it up, and then press it into the skin gently. But sometimes I use Weleda Skin Food. It’s pretty thick, but makeup artists love it because it leaves such a beautiful glow. And then I didn’t understand eye creams for a long time—I thought you should just put moisturizer all over your face—but as I’ve learned, the skin on your eyes is different. Now I use Estée Lauder’s Re-Nutriv. It doesn’t feel heavy at all, but best of all, I don’t get any creasing under makeup when I use it.
When I have any flare-ups or redness on my skin, I like to do a light layer of the Kora Noni Glow face oil. I’ve been a fan since Miranda Kerr, the founder of Kora and a friend of mine, launched it. It’s really calming for me. I keep a little bottle with me everywhere I go. Then finally, I’ll apply my sunscreen. Innisfree’s Daily SPF 36 is my favorite because it doesn’t leave a white cast or break me out.
BODY
I was happy when I found Naturium’s Glow Getter body balm because it actually stays on all day. It smells like vanilla, which isn’t usually my favorite, but it’s subtle and doesn’t linger for too long. You can still put on fragrance over it. I’ll usually put one of our body oils over it—or sometimes I just go straight into them. The Awakening oil is our everyday oil. Because it’s fast-drying, you can apply it right out of the shower and still get dressed quickly after without worrying your clothes will get ruined. It smells a little floral—it has magnolia—but it’s also a little coconutty and amber-y. The Renewal oil is a little thicker. This is the one to grab if you want to relax. It smells like eucalyptus, cedarwood, and lily of the valley—there’s a spa feel to it. I like to say that it makes me feel like a wet seal because it makes you look so glossy. Then the Golden Hour oil has a bit of shimmer and bronze tone to it. It makes you look luminous but not sparkly. People always have that perfect glow on red carpets and I wanted to replicate that in a bottle.
MAKEUP
I’ve been using Bobbi Brown’s Face Base for such a long time. It smells amazing—sort of like Weleda Skin Food—and makes makeup glide on without pilling. On top, I’ll add a layer of Saie’s Glowy Super Gel in Roseglow. It works so well under Hourglass’ skin tint, which is a newer discovery for me. The formula is super thin, perfect for days when I just want light coverage and a more even complexion. I wear 14. If I need to cover a spot, Ilia’s concealer in Birch is my go-to—it’s lightweight but the coverage is incredible. And if I’m going for a heavier look, I pull out my Medium Deep MAC palette. Those palettes have been around forever for a reason—they’re genius. There’s an orange shade that corrects, and then the other five are perfect for finishing my base.
People should talk about Victoria Beckham’s beauty line more because it’s just so good. Her eyeliner glides on easily and it never dries out—the Cocoa one is my favorite. I also switched to brown mascara this past year, and it’s completely changed my look, giving me such a soft finish. I use Clinique’s Black Honey, which doesn’t clump and comes off easily at the end of the night. It also pairs beautifully with the warm browns and burnt oranges I usually use on my eyes. Speaking of, Chanel once sent me a collection that included this gorgeous deep orange eyeshadow… except it turned out to be a lipstick—the Rouge Allure 212. [Laughs] It’s dewy but with a matte edge, and I loved how natural it looked on my eyes, so I just kept going with it. I’ll apply it with a fluffy brush across my lids, then take a smaller brush to buff it under my eyes for a soft contour effect.
Bronzer is my all over contour. Ilia and Saie make a similar brown shade, but Ilia’s has a little bit more of a glow. Typically, I’ll dot the Saie Sun Melt in Medium Bronze on my cheekbones, forehead, sides of my nose, and the base of my jaw. Then I’ll take a brush and blend in the Ilia Sunshift in Bask. Chanel makes a stick that’s technically a highlighter, but Golden Light is bronze-y so I’ll swipe it on the high points of my cheeks and the top of my nose. Sometimes I’ll do it on my eyelids, too, along with blush. Otherwise, I like putting blush on the high points of my cheekbones and then dragging it down to the apples of my cheeks. Then I take whatever’s left on the brush and dust it on my forehead to make everything feel uniform and blended together. I just wouldn’t do that with bright pinks. That’s more of a trick with mauve-y, brown-leaning shades. Patrick Ta’s in She Goes To The Gym is a favorite.
HAIR
I usually wash my hair twice a week. Living Proof’s No Frizz shampoo and conditioner are my favorites—they leave my hair shiny without any heavy residue. If I’ve been shooting a lot, or if I’m on vacation and have the time, I’ll use Unite’s 7Seconds mask. It leaves my hair silky and smooth. Not the best habit, but I like showering at night and sleeping on wet hair. Somehow it works out, because I wake up with nice waves. The only heat I really use is from my Dyson. It’s so much faster than any other blow dryer I’ve tried, and the pressure is amazing.
I usually just get my hair cut on set, but when I make the time, I go to Marty Harper. On set they give me clip-ins, but my friends introduced me to Priscilla Vales and her K-Tip extensions are incredible. She makes them look so natural you literally can’t see them, even if your hair’s up in a bun or a slicked-back look. We’ll see if I keep them, but so far, so good.
WELLNESS
Weight training has done beautiful things for my body over the years. People are often scared of it because they think it’ll make them bulky, but bulking is such a specific type of training—you’d literally have to eat like a bodybuilder. I’ve told so many of my friends to try it, and they always come back saying they’ve never seen such a quick transformation. It makes me feel strong, too. I usually do it twice a week, and then fill in the other days with Pilates. I love Pilates because I can do it anywhere, even when I’m traveling and don’t have access to a gym.
For hydration, I add Santa Cruz Paleo’s lemon electrolytes to my water. The tub has Himalayan salt, sea salt, magnesium, and potassium, and it actually makes my water taste better. I’m also always deficient in vitamin D for some reason, so I take daily capsules for that—vitamin K, too.
NAILS
I get a manicure every three weeks. I’d been following Jenny, a super-talented nail artist, for ages. When she moved from Canada to Los Angeles, she DMed me—and I’ve been going to her ever since. That was two years ago, and now half my friends see her, too. She mixes custom colors for everyone so the shade perfectly matches your skin tone. The only downside is when people ask what I’m wearing, I can never give them an answer. But in general, I always gravitate toward warm nudes.
FRAGRANCE
I love woodsy, santal scents that feel fresh—and have a little touch of something masculine at times. I’m not into anything overly floral. That said, I do love Hermès 24 Faubourg. It has orange blossom and jasmine, and I first discovered it in the Hermès dressing room in Paris. It’s a great everyday scent and layers beautifully with any body lotion. Le Labo’s Bergamote 22 is another staple. I wore Santal 33 for years but eventually switched to this one and never looked back. It’s never too overpowering—I can keep spraying and spraying and still not feel like I overdid it.
I like my home to smell fresh and woodsy, too. Maison Louis Marie’s No.02 Le Long Fond candle nails it with hinoki wood, cedarwood, and patchouli. Byredo’s Bibliothèque candle has patchouli as well—it’s so addictive. Whenever I ask someone what candle they’re burning and it smells amazing, it’s always Bibliothèque. Plus, the vessels are beautiful. I love walking into the Byredo store just to look at and smell them. Diptyque’s Figuier is just as cozy and grounding—it makes me feel like I’m walking through a beautiful wooded area. And I recently discovered Homecourt’s room deodorants. They’re the easiest way to instantly make your space smell good. I’ve been loving Neroli Leaf.”
