Colored mascara is like a winged eyeliner’s talented, glamorous, but never gossiped about older sister. It’s been around forever, but never quite made the jump into the mainstream. It floated under the radar instead; attending fashion shows, beauty shoots, and backstage events without ever taking the spotlight. Your favorite neutral mascara probably comes in a variety of colors you never even knew about. Colored mascara is Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, and Chanel. Colored mascara is blue, gold, silver, green, pink, purple, and more.
One very important item to note is that mascara is easy to use no matter your skill level. You don’t need surplus tools or an aesthetics degree. On top of that, it photographs well but also looks amazing in real life, and can be worn either very boldly or very subtly. It’s low lift, high impact. What’s not to like about that? With the help of makeup artist Ingeborg, we took this idea—that everybody should be wearing colored mascara all the time—and paired it with matching washes of eyeshadow. The result is definitely high impact, and (with the right products) as low lift as you want it to be. See for yourself.
