"Hi! My name is Frankie Harrer (@frankieharrer) and I live in Malibu, California. I've been surfing since I was nine years old, as an after school thing with some guys I grew up with. I love it, because it's a sport where you get to be completely immersed in nature, and that's an amazing feeling. It's dangerous, but that's exciting, too. It's also just generally hard on your skin and hair, because you're constantly in the sun and salt water. I'm all about hydrating products after surfing. A lot of the awesome girls I surf with also don't wear a ton of makeup––they're totally stripped down, glowing, strong, and happy. I'm really inspired by that look.

Sunscreen is the most important part of my routine. I use Shade Sunscreen for my face when I'm surfing, because it stays on really well in the water, which is necessary when you're out there for hours at a time. I also use Coola, which is my favorite for my body. It's light and absorbs quickly. I'm obsessed with Dr. Barbara Sturm's products, too. She's a specialist aesthetics doctor based in Germany, and I love her hyaluronic acid serums. They're really good for hydration and they're not sticky at all. I use either her Enzyme Cleanser or the Natura Bissé C+C Vitamin Scrub to wash it all off. The lip balm I use most is the mini pot of Vaseline, because my skin is always feeling a little dry, plus a little Glossier Soothing Face Mist to stay refreshed after a swim.

My best post-workout beauty tip is to find a good face wipe. Simple's wipes are great, so my pores don't get clogged up. I always keep them in my bag so I can wipe my face clean even before the sweat dries and I have a chance to shower. For my hair I just make sure to shampoo and condition—right now I'm using Davines Love shampoo. Truthfully, though, I'll use anything in the house. I almost prefer drugstore shampoo like Pantene or Garnier. People argue with me, but I think it's just as good! And I don't feel as guilty using a lot of conditioner when I'm using a cheaper brand. Then I'll just put in a leave-in conditioner by Unite haircare and I'm done.

I also love making homemade shower scrubs with coconut oil, avocado oil, rose oil, and coarse salt. Aside from surfing every day, I'm into a lot of different workouts—circuits, strength training, and some cardio to mix it up. But I also do some crazy underwater training a few days a week called XPT, which is a fitness system that's a mix of gym, water, and land workouts. And ice baths! I'm into eating healthy and staying hydrated, generally. If you're in Malibu you HAVE to go to Sunlife Organics for a smoothie. And try out Mylkman Coconut Water, it's the best.

And my makeup routine! I tend to stick to Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer, a little MAC powder, RMS Lip2cheek, and Eyeko waterproof mascara for makeup. It's funny, because so much of my life revolved around being adventurous—I'm surfing big waves, diving off rooftops—but when it comes to makeup, the whole idea of being adventurous is so daunting to me. I’d love to learn how to be better at applying makeup. Someone should start a makeup school for surfer girls."
