'I do a bit of makeup, but in the summer, I don't tend to wear anything. When I get tan, I feel like my skin is so fresh that I don’t need anything on it. I wear a moisturizer from Dermalogica called Pure Light SPF 50, but I do like stuff with color—glossy, bronzy stuff.”
We'd wager that, even though people are reticent to use more makeup in the summer for fear it'll sweat off, it is actually the most fun time to be playing around with color. And why? Well, it's just like the Austrailian-born, Swedish-raised Kelly Gale (@kellybellyboom if you're on Instagram) says: glossy, bronzy stuff. Along with what Tyler Haney calls a “responsible tan.” colors that would otherwise look a little garish (Make Up For Ever Aqua Matic in Diamond Peach D-70, which reads to the untrained eye as simply “sparkly orange') feel more user-friendly when you've got some color or freckles going. Orange and the like also work as a bit of a sunless tan enhancer, which is nice.
What also pairs well with glow: pink lips. Kelly picked up a Sisley Phyto-Lip Twist in Baby. It's a case of “packaging doesn't match product'—the little zebra tube actually houses a very demure, almost-nude pink that feels as good (if not better) than lip balm and amps natural color up just enough. Because when you're messing with orange eyeliner, it's best to keep everything else in check.
