ITG photographer Tom flew with Angels last week, quite literally. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving he found himself at JFK, along with 40 Victoria's Secret Angels, waiting to board a private jet headed to London. What followed was three days of backstage access, model interviews, and a lot of glitter. In anticipation of tonight's broadcast of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show (on CBS at 10/9C, if you're setting your DVR), here are Tom's shots and a few notes on fashion's most-watched show:
'I live for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. It's the Olympics of glamour. I love the Helmut Lang/Jil Sander minimal look as much as the next person, but every once and a while, I need the unrelenting pomp of 40 models with four-foot-long legs, a healthy dose of blush and hairspray, and some sparkly bras.
And I'm not the only one—the televised event draws around 10 million viewers annually. The modeling world shuts down for this. It's all anyone cares about for three months straight. Did your favorite make the cut? Will it be Adriana's last show? Who's going to open? Will Taylor Swift be there again? The anticipation is killer.
Being there was otherworldly. The girls are having a genuinely good time. At the airport, Joan Smalls and Lily Donaldson screamed and burst into spontaneous dance when they saw each other. Karlie ripped down the VS banner at the photocall, ran around with it, and posed. Amazing. Did I cry? Multiple times. I saw the show already, but you better believe I'm tuning in again tonight.”
