Even if you don’t know Jamie McKillop by name, you might know her bathroom. The Yves Klein–blue tiled space is TikTok-famous, endlessly pinned to home-design inspo boards alongside her bright red bar cabinet and pistachio-green kitchen. McKillop is the founder of Lazy Jamie, a home-decor brand beloved for its spiral flatware and Murano-inspired glass tumblers (a collaboration with Nou’s Alexia Ioannou!).
Most recently, she launched reimagined TV trays—the very idea that sparked her brand, inspired by a 1950s mid-century set once owned by her grandmother. “The best part of my day was coming home after work and eating dinner on the couch,” she says. “A lot of us, whether we admit it or not, do the same—we’re not eating at dining tables because many of us don’t even have them.” The trays also double as the perfect sidekick to a bath—Jamie often balances a dirty martini on hers. Below, she shares the products and rituals that make her bath time feel like the ultimate reset.
“My husband and I moved into our LA home five years ago. It already had great bones—including a beautiful red bar cabinet—and a strong design sensibility. When we redid the bathroom, I wanted to keep the spirit of the house, so I swapped the old washed-out blue tiles for a punchy Yves Klein blue I’ve always loved. I wasn’t thinking about creating content when I put them in, but people really respond to it online—design has taken a turn, and people are finally starting to move on from the sad beige look.
I’ve always loved taking baths. They’re a nice wind down and bookend for the day, but they also force me to be present. In LA, I would take a bath pretty much every night and intentionally put my phone in another room—it was this meditative moment for me where I read or listened to music or did nothing at all. It felt like a true ritual. I’d step out of the water and my brain would feel refreshed. Now that we spend more time in New York for my husband’s job, I bathe less; the bathroom there feels purely functional. Maybe it’s the Yves Klein blue that draws me back to the LA tub.
My baths always include a few favorites. Susanne Kaufman makes a great bath soak. I discovered it at Ett Hem, a hotel in Stockholm—and one of my favorite hotels ever because every detail is so considered. The sprig of rosemary in the bottle elevates the soak, but beyond that, it’s antibacterial so it helps clear up blemishes on your body. I mix it with SaltWorks epsom salts. Neither bubbles up, but the combo makes me feel like it’s the grownup version of a bubble bath. Don’t get me wrong, I love bubble baths, but I get worried about UTIs. [Laughs]
I light Maison Louis Marie’s No.05 Kandilli candle. It’s a mix of tuberose, white lily, sandalwood, and jasmine—I’m a sucker for anything with jasmine. This might sound silly, but when I first saw Maison Louis Marie candles in stores and on Instagram, I always admired the idea of the kind of woman who would burn them. One day I decided I am that woman, wick trimmer and all. Trimming really does help the glass burn cleanly, but honestly, it just looks chic next to the candle—and it makes me feel more put together and better about my life.
For body care, I embrace ‘lazy’ steps, which is why I love Hanni’s Splash Salve so much. It’s technically a shower product—you apply it, rinse, and pat dry—but I use it as my final bath step and simply splash water over myself. It leaves me moisturized with very little effort. Hanni’s Water Balm is another favorite; I spray it on damp skin instead of rubbing in lotion.
I’ve always been a bit of a homebody, but especially on Fridays, I like to stay in and close out the week with a really nice drink in the bath. To me, that’s more exciting than going to a bar. My go-to is a dirty Hendrick’s martini with olives: crisp, simple, and photogenic next to the tub. For reading, I always recommend Gail Honeyman’s Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, one of my all-time favorite books. I think any woman in their twenties or thirties who ever feels lonely or isolated and is looking for a sense of community and connection should read it at least once—it really makes you feel seen and recognized.
Out of the bath, I wrap up in a super-absorbent and fluffy Matouk robe and a Crown Affair hair towel. I have really, really fine and wavy hair and it dries quickly already, but this speeds it up even more. It’s also so gentle and never pulls my hair. At that point, I’m done and ready for bed.”
