These days, there’s no shortage of reasons you might find a line snaking down a Soho street, but if you came across the one on Greene last night, there was only one person to blame: Pam! Pamela Anderson was in town to support her third act, her skincare brand, Sonsie, which did a very Soho thing and opened a pop-up for a couple of days. She’s calling it The Sonsie Garden, which is Pam-speak for transforming what’s usually a Shopify brick-and-mortar into a lush indoor oasis. Fresh greenery and flowers filled the space, Sunlife Organics matchas were on offer, and Flamingo Estate Tuscan Rosemary candles perfumed the air as Sonsie products sat ready to be tested and taken home. Right before she slipped out of the door, Pamela spent exactly 59 seconds (no less, no more) with the ITG team to snap a few photos.
The next afternoon, she called us on her way to her other job—a movie with Michael Cera—and told us a little bit about her morning routine and the “love potion” she can’t get enough of.
Dear ITG,
Yesterday was such a special day. I got to bring a little taste of my home to New York City with The Sonsie Garden before running off to film Love Is Not The Answer. Like I’ve said before, I don’t want to keep adding to the beauty industry—or to my own line—unless something truly feels out of this world. I’ve never liked complicated routines, so Sonsie had to be a one-stop shop. It’s vegan, cruelty-free, and rooted in everything I’ve been passionate about for ages. And truly, it’s a family business. My sons are very involved—Dylan’s been worked to the bone! He actually interviewed me yesterday, and it was so funny watching him hold the microphone like a rock star.
There were roses everywhere, along with so much greenery, rosemary, and wheelbarrows of heirloom tomatoes from Flamingo Estate, who I recently collaborated with on pickles. It all felt whimsical, like something out of a dream—and exactly how I feel in my own garden. That’s why I want more people to plant more gardens, to reconnect with nature, to play, so they can feel like garden fairies, too.
I like to start each day with an affirmation. Lately, it’s been “I am alive”—a simple reminder to have fun. My skincare routine is all Sonsie, of course, and this morning I finished my look with a fun butterfly hat from Magnolia Pearl. The brand is based in Malibu, but I wear it around Vancouver Island all the time. It felt like I was bringing a little of the West Coast to the East. I also like to put on my “love potion,” which is a mix of essential oils like ylang-ylang that I blend myself.
The cherry—or should I say rhubarb—on top was my new Sugar-Dipped Rhubarb lip balm. We do a lot with strawberries on Vancouver Island, but the scent reminded me of breaking rhubarb stalks from my grandmother’s garden and dipping them in sugar. There’s a sourness to that sweetness that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. It’s one of my favorite vegetables, and I love that we made a lip balm inspired by one. Plus, it has the most beautiful shimmer.
It’s a crazy world and it’s easy to take ourselves too seriously, especially in the “natural” beauty space. Whether it’s through us or not, I just hope people add more playfulness and joy to whatever they do—that’s the missing ingredient in life. Remember: The rebel road is to be happy.
With love,
Pamela Anderson
