How To Work From Home And Still Get A Change Of Scenery

ITG's cameras have been in many a luxe apartment, and quite frankly, if we have to work from home we’d rather be in one of those. Luckily, it’s easy to pretend we’re camping out in the homes of our favorite Top Shelf subjects with just a few clicks. Answer emails from Sam McKnight’s garden! Host your meeting in Grace Coddington’s study! Do research in… well, you get the gist. Here’s how to do it:

On Zoom

  • Save your room of choice to your desktop
  • Open the Zoom app
  • In the top left corner of your screen, click on “zoom.us”
  • Then click “Preferences”
  • On the left hand menu bar, click “Virtual Backgrounds”
  • Click on the plus sign to add your custom background

Helpful tip: Make sure your computer is updated to its most recent software before attempting, and a plain white wall cooperates best.

On Photobooth for Mac

  • Save your room of choice to your desktop
  • Click “Effects” in the bottom right corner of the window
  • Scroll to the last page, where you see User Background options
  • Drag a saved photo into one of the User Background boxes
  • Exit the frame so the background can load, and then re-enter to take your selfie

Helpful tip: If you’re sitting in a chair, take the chair out of frame with you while the background loads, and then put it back to take your photo.

Here's team ITG Zooming in from Grace Coddington's couch, Cyndia Harvey's London flat, and Djuna Bel's living room. Our morning coffee check-ins have never looked so gosh darn neat.
