Beauty dupes are good. Actually, beauty dupes are great! They work nearly the same and are far less expensive than their luxe counterparts. But can they win against the originals in a fake basketball tournament hosted on Twitter? Turns out, not always.
The results of round 1 of ITG's 2018 March Madness—Battle of the Dupes are not terribly surprising. Ain't nobody abandoning Nars Orgasm, for instance. Or Skinceuticals CE Ferulic for that matter—if you're gonna spend on anti-aging, may as well pay up for the cult favorite. But there were a few dupe upsets of note:
- Differin unseated Shani Darden's Retinol Reform handily. Topical vitamin A doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg, even if EmRata and Rosie Huntington-Whitely are using the pricey version.
- Ditch your Mason Pearson, apparently. Sonia Kashuk's is equally great—and available at Target.
- And like your mother taught you: Drugstore mascara is just as good. L'Oréal's Lash Paradise is some of the best on the market, if also the cheapest.
