The idea of an eyeshadow “wash” is nice. Like you bathed your lids in something pretty and it came out colorful. Colorful, but in just one shade, so in no way is it overly complicated. Really, a wash is nothing new—just the basics—but its simplicity feels fresher and more modern than most eyeshadow situations. Eyeshadow quads are actually too confusing, right? Maybe one shade is enough—especially in the hands of Katie Jane Hughes (dewy skin aficionado, makeup artist to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, basically the creator of glossy lids). Here she used three different shades for three different looks: applying the product from the lash line all the way up to the brow bone, then layering along the way so the pigment really shows. It's easy—honestly. And in lavender, yellow, and orange, it almost feels like spring.
