For anybody who was wondering: Print is alive and well—just different. For one thing, it's way more niche. Also, expensive. We digital editors are happy to show it some love from our domain—no competition here! Only appreciation and curiosity about how their budgets work. But, really, I love magazines. Love throwing them in my bag on my way somewhere; love leaving it out on the coffee table during a party; love letting a friend flip through it while I'm running late getting ready.

I look a magazine, or several magazines, every day. Unfortunately at ITG, we're not always traveling the world with trunks of products and clothes—but with a glossy, I can pretend that I am. Editorial can do that to you. So when I want to go somewhere new, here's what I flip open:

Holiday

I covet every issue of this title. The editorial geniuses at Holiday center every issue around a different region—they're currently in LA. From the historical features to the glamorous fashion stories, every page is a marvel. There's one with Hana Jirikova photographed by Greg Harris in this car shot that will make you want to dramatically drive a convertible around with smudged blue eyeliner. A complete dream. Then there's a family portrait session of Taylor Hill and her sister and brothers by Bruce Weber. Very sweet.

Unconditional

Dripping in Céline! That's what every page of this feels like. Ilona and Alexandra keep driving home the minimal clean sophistication issue after issue. There aren't any gimmicks or tricks here; just gorgeous photography of gorgeous things. And they've got a gorgeous hair styling story with Sophie Koella, too. I love when they dip their toes into beauty.

Numéro

Taking a hard right turn from Unconditional's dreamy minimalism and diving headfirst into harsh, vivid, unreal photography. The story they did with Grace Bol in the May 2017 issue will go down as one of my favorites of the past few years.

Novembre

Very cool, very niche, very heavy. It's beautifully designed and printed, and quite maximalist too. There's so much to feast your eyes on, lipstick bullets being melted away by Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, tons of bizarre sunglasses—it's all surreal and magical.

Beauty Papers

I own two copies of every issue. I'd like to think Beauty Papers and Into The Gloss are sisters of sorts—the articles are very informative and always providing some sort of a service, but the images go so far beyond the beauty stories I see in other magazines. The highlight for me is their combination of Solve Sundsbo with Stephane Marais, givng way to some of the most haunting beauty photos I think I've ever seen.

SSAW

Based out of Stockholm. Every photo feels so crisp and wet—a good palette cleanser for some of the more intense mags I've suggested. In this issue, there's a long story with underrated queen Vanessa Axente and a fake child (maybe?) lounging around some breezy looking lighthouse cabin seaside home. It's like a film in print. That's what a good magazine is—something beyond the page.
