“I’m Kimmy Scotti [@kimmyscotti] and I live in New York. I’m an entrepreneur—I just started Monthly Gift, which is a femme-care subscription service. I’m also a partner at a venture capital firm called 8 Partners. I spend all day meeting amazing founders, hearing their ideas, and then selecting the companies that best fit our thesis to invest in and help grow their companies. Entrepreneurs are great—they get to solve big problems, and I get to help them make it happen.

My job is not 9 to 5, it’s eyes open to eyes shut. I’m on the road between New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco for more than half the year, which is tough. So my beauty routine is all about practicality. I start by washing my hair with Oribe Shampoo and Conditioner for Brilliance and Shine. I’ll also spray in Oribe Volumista and if I’m not in a rush, I let it air dry. Otherwise I blowdry it upside down with a Paul Mitchell Neuro Hairdryer, finishing with Oribe Superfine Hairspray. I love the way Oribe products look in my bathroom, and the little luxuries about the bottles—like the seal that makes them feel like products for goddesses. And they smell so good, you barely have to wear perfume. Before I get dressed, I’ll apply Victorine’s Body Oil in Sex. It has a super warm scent to it that I’m crazy about. It’s not as strong as a fragrance, but people are always telling me how great it smells—and I think because the name is kind of salacious, I giggle every time.

I like to wash my face with Milky Jelly Cleanser in the shower, and every other day I’ll exfoliate with the Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser. I really like the texture of the exfoliant—it’s super fine and it makes my skin feel squeaky clean. After I shower, I mix Herbivore Lapis Oil mixed with a drop of Odacite Radiance Effect Serum Concentrate and Naturopathica Aloe Replenishing Gel Mask all over my face and décolletage. I catch little bits of the Lapis scent all day long. Then I layer on Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer with SPF 30. My latest discovery is this Image Skincare ORMEDiC Balancing Lip Enhancement Complex. It smells melon-y and gives your lips a little extra pout.

For coverage, I use Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Moisture Foundation in 23—applied with an Artis Elite Oval 10 Brush. It gives you a really even complexion, refines pores and basically makes your skin look perfect while still being lightweight and staying put. Then I brush Chanel Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 on my t-zone with the Nars Kabuki Brush. For blush, I love Nars Pierre Hardy Blush in Boys Don’t Cry—I use the same kabuki brush for blush, which I’m sure is a no-no but I’m usually in a rush. I use my finger to put Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Velvet Eyeshadow in Melody on my eyelids, and then if I’m feeling like I want a little something extra, I use my fingers to apply the Tom Ford Eye Color Quad in Nude Dip, adding a little of the rosy nude to my lids and the gold to my brow bone.

At 30, I’ve learned that if you commit to getting your brows and lashes done, you can just get up in the morning and go. Find someone who understands what you are going for with your brows and will stick with you through thick and thin—my brow guy is Matt from Spruce and Bond in New York. And I get my permanent false lashes done monthly at Bling Lash on 23rd Street in New York.

When I’m getting ready for an event or dinner meeting, I usually only have time to add makeup instead of starting all over. I reapply my YSL Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils in Black with a heavier hand, and line my bottom lid with Chanel Kohl Eyeliner in Noir. For evening, I always finish with Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Raven, which literally stays all night long. I’ve worn it at board meetings and at Burning Man, and I don’t have to reapply. My mother is a red lipstick girl, and I think she’s always inspired me to wear a bold lip. My other go-to’s are Chanel Rouge Allure Passion and Tom Ford Narcotic Rouge [ed note: discontinued, but Flamingo is a similar pinky-red]. I just don’t really feel like I’m wearing makeup until I have red lipstick on!

A big part of my getting ready is where I get ready. I was looking for a vanity a couple of years ago when I finally found the perfect one—a pink solid marble vanity with rounded edges and a huge hanging mirror. So I called the seller and found out it’d belonged to Mae West at one point. I make sure that I sit down and do my hair and makeup at that vanity every day...It’s my most treasured possession.”
