What was once a tiny and mighty beauty blog called Into The Gloss has become a bona fide NYC startup: Glossier, with a ragtag team of 35+ jogging up and down the stairwell of our Soho office building, spread out across three floors. Why are we here? We're creating a new kind of beauty company from the ground up—one that acknowledges the hopes, dreams, and desires of women today, and gives them the tools (both digitally and physically) to take ownership over their beauty routines. Who are we? Well, a lot of us began like you: as readers. And we'd like for you to get to know us a little better—what we each do, where we come from, and what we're excited about. Meet Carrie Barber and Christa Tilley:
You guys work so closely together—what's the key to having an efficient working relationship?
Christa Tilley, Creative Producer: “I try to find a rhythm between pushing things forward, but also being gracious and partnering with people. If you cultivate working relationships, you can be kind of tough and organized but also enjoyable to work with. It's about supporting your team members, but also being productive. You have to play both sides.”
Carrie Barber, Digital Art Director:'You also have to be fluid and flexible—everybody wants the end product to be successful. I'm a perfectionist, but I have to let go because it's not always going to be perfect. You work hard, let it launch, and you can go back and refine it as a team.”
Christa:'We're both no bullshit, but in a friendly way. We’re gonna work as hard as we can, but we’re not going to be rude about it.”

What do you do at Glossier?
I am the Digital Art Director which basically means I oversee all things digital from a creative perspective. I work very close with the Digital Product team to enhance our website and make sure that we offer the best experience online for our customers. I also work with the Creative Team as much as possible so I can anticipate the digital execution of a product launch or campaign. I like to crash their meetings because I learn a lot from them and leave feeling very inspired.

Best beauty tip?
It’s more advice, based on one of many beauty mistakes I made as a teenager: Don’t over-wax your eyebrows!
