'I’m Janet Morales [@janetmorales04]. I go to Pacific Union College in Angwin, California, which is in Napa Valley. Going to school in northern California is actually really inspiring because of all the natural beauty surrounding my campus. I have to think that’s probably a huge factor as to why my everyday look is very natural looking. I don’t want to do anything that looks too obvious with my makeup unless it’s a red lip.

My mom really got me into beauty. Every Saturday morning we would drive to church with my brother and me in the back seat buckled up with my dad driving while my mom, in the passenger's seat, would be putting on her mascara using the mirror on the back of the sun visor. I started experimenting around the time I was 13, but thankfully I never did try the brown lip pencil with pink gloss look—I also never over-plucked my brows because my mom had that ingrained in me at a young age. I still remember her voice when I'm alone and tweezing my eyebrows.

I do a lot of research before I buy new products—I like to know what I’m spending my money on. It doesn’t matter if it’s drugstore or department store...great and honest reviews are a good indication to me about quality. So I always make sure to look into if a product matches my skin tone or works for my skin type. Whether this is on Sephora's website, Ulta, or more random sites, I pay attention to the commenter and her specifications to get a sense if it works for me, too.

Daily, I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Facial Moisturizer SPF 35. It’s nice, clean-feeling, and safe for acne-prone skin. I always play up my eyes with Urban Decay’s Naked Palette, which works for everyday, and their 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion. Urban Decay’s products stay put all day and have a nice consistency so I tend to rely on them. As for foundation goes, I use Dermablend Smooth Liquid Camo Foundation because it has a lot of shades. It was one of the brands actually recommended by my dermatologist instead of me finding it by scouring the best-of lists or comment sections. It's a great brand for Latinas, who are all skin tones. I use Sand Beige, which is a good match to feel comfortable using it on the regular. Then, on my lashes I wear Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara—it gives lashes lift. I use Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rosé on my lips—it glides on smoothly and lasts for a long time plus the obvious smell of roses is a plus for me. My perfume is Miss Dior. I paint my nails with Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Lotus Rouge pretty frequently.

If I’m reading for one of my classes at night, I take a quick study break and make myself a mask, put it on my face, and get back to reading. This really helps me relax after a long day. I wash my face with Vevite’s Daily Facial Cleanser so it’s clean and can get the most of of the avocado face mask I make. It’s half an avocado mixed with two teaspoons of honey and a squeeze of lemon juice. I only leave it on for about 15 minutes and then rinse off, pat dry, and apply a face serum. I do this one on Sunday nights, when I have a bit more time to relax. During the week, I switch between a grape mask and a yogurt one. If I'm feeling lazy, I just go for one of Que Bella's masks which are great and affordable. And once in a while, I'll go for Glam Glow Youth Mud Tinglexfoliate Treatment.

It's important to me to take care of my hair, but my routine there is pretty simple— Moroccanoil Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner to keep it silky and then Ojon’s Rare Blend Oil Total Hair Therapy for an extra boost of shine.

I think studying abroad has also influenced my fashion. I did a year abroad in Florence recently and noticed that the women there wore very subtle makeup. The emphasis was really on the eyes, if anything. But even with subtle makeup, I'm one of those people who gets dressed up to go to class. I like to, especially when I know I'm going to have a super busy day or a test. It's one of the ways I help myself feel prepared and ready to tackle the day.”
