Those of you familiar with our weekly #ITGTopshelfies know that we source our pool of lovely beauty-obsessed women (and some men) from Instagram. Don't worry—we're not changing that! But we are adding to it. This April and May, we'll be pairing up with College Fashionista to pick two stand-out students (the youth is the future, we hear) to be featured on our regularly scheduled #ITGTopShelfie programming. To kick things off, College Fashionista's founder, Amy Levin, submitted her own #ITGTopshelfie over Instagram. You can do the same by tagging @intothegloss, and include the hashtag #ITGTopShelfie for a chance to be on the site.
'My name is Amy Levin [@amy.levin], founder of College Fashionista, and I currently live in-between Chicago and New York. I launched the site 2009 from my apartment in Bloomington, Ind., right after reading an interview Scott Schuman did with the Indiana University Daily Newspaper about the power of street style in major fashion capitals. I looked around my campus and saw it was happening here, too, and someone needed to document that. Through word of mouth and some really awesome students, it went from one campus, to five campuses, and now we have over 500 campuses featured. Then the international expansion came! I love seeing what's happening in schools in Australia and South Korea compared to over here. I really believe that college is when people start to develop important brand loyalty—I always say to take advantage of the amount of free time you have in college. There couldn't be a more influential group of people to observe when it comes to beauty and fashion.
When I think of beauty, I think of confidence. When I don't have makeup on, I feel like I want to hide. I still get jealous of those girls who rock nothing! It's crazy how a little Clé de Peau Concealer and eyebrow gel can make me feel that much better, though. The Clé de Peau is worth the price and lives in my purse religiously. I use it for early morning flights, which are now a part of my weekly life. I mainly tap it under my eyes and on spots, especially if I don't have time for foundation. I also get my eyebrows tinted every two weeks and then fill them in with Chantecaille Brow Definer before I top them off with an eyebrow gel. Those are my essentials, but everything else I like to change up every so often—things like foundation, face wash, face wash and moisturizer—sometimes on a monthly basis! Though, I'll never give up Rodin's Olio Lusso Face Oil. I have had it for years now and can't seem to find a replacement I love as much.
Right now Chanel Vitalumière Aqua, is my go-to foundation. When my skin becomes too used to something and starts to look dull, I'll change it up. I've been rotating between Chanel, Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Crème, and Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in the past couple of months. On top of that, Soleil Tan de Chanel Illuminating Fluid makes me feel super glowy. I put a small amount on my hand and use two figures to dab the liquid bronzer on my cheek bones. I also love using my fingers with wet eyeshadows. My friend Ashley gives me a new product to try each month, and this month it's Chanel's Illusion d'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Émerveillé. When I don't have eyeshadow on me, I use Vaseline straight on my eyelids. Avoid getting it in your eyes though—done this before, and it majorly hurts. Then on my lashes, I always use two mascaras. Right now it's a combo of Rimmel ScandalEyes Retro Glam Mascara then a second coat of Kevyn Aucoin's Volume Mascara. For lips, I use MAC Lip Pencil in Subculture. I actually wear this as lipstick. I first line my lips and then fill it in lightly for a natural look.
My guilty pleasure is getting my hair blown out. I have a hairstylist-turned-friend, Jess Crocetto, who comes to my apartment at least once a week. It's a game changer. Right now she uses It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product before she blow dries and then finishes it off with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. On days she isn't there to do my hair, I am a dry shampoo junkie. Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo smells pretty amazing.”
