A hairstylist once told me that with every new product launch, companies will try to re-invent the wheel. An admirable goal, certainly—but not wholly doable. Novelty is nice, but when you get down to it, give me a hair product that works better than what I have and I'll buy it. It's a relatively low-tech approach to a market that is brimming with heat-activated, anti-gravity, monster-killing technology. So, again, say it with me: Buy what works.
Which is why the Kérastase Carré Lissant Sheets may initially seem like just a more expensive alternative to a trick you already know (namely that rubbing a dryer sheet on your head will kill frizz, take care of excess oil, and negate the static electricity you created when you pulled on your turtleneck this morning). But there are two problems with the Downey solution: The first is that I've yet to meet a person who is eager and willing to tote around a box of dryer sheets during their day-to-day. The second is that I don't think it actually works that well. It's sort of funny at first—'Hey, I'm rubbing a dryer sheet on my head! I'm a DIY all-star!”—until you realize that dryer sheets are made for the dryer, not your hair, and therefore, not optimized for your current flyaway-related needs.
Kérastase, geniuses that they are, took it to the next step. Sheets that are meant for your head insteadthe dryer. They do everything your box of Bounty will do, and then some. Most notably, they help with oil without leaving hair kind of dull and heavy, like a dry shampoo might. Frizz is taken care of for the long haul, not just the next few minutes. The box is smaller than what you bring to the laundromat, but probably not small enough to coax its way into your purse, making it the perfect desk survival kit addition. And seeing that the most similar product you have lives in your hamper, not in your medicine cabinet, you won't feel like you're overlapping. Everybody wins.
