While science suggests that multitasking doesn't really exist (which isn't to say you should stop using it as a talking point in job interviews), a multi-purpose lip color is 100 percent definitely a thing. Lipliner is that thing. A tiny bit of color smudged at the center of lips and blended out with your finger is the easiest way to get post-popsicle gradient lips [1-3]. Fill lips all the way in for a matte look that will last just as long as your average long-wear lipstick [4-6]. And a fully-lined lip happens to be the best way to wear a fully-pigmented gloss if you actually want it to stay where you put it [7-9].
Ladies, sharpen your pencils! (...would have been a perfectly cheesy but acceptable closing to this little write-up had Smashbox not made a liner that sharpens to a perfect point every time you twist the cap back on. Ah, well.)
