In a season already dead set on no-makeup makeup, Rodarte's Spring/Summer '15 look involves 14 eyebrow piercings and nails with navy cuticles. Tom's take:
"I gasped when Emily forwarded me this invite. I actually gasped out loud, I couldn't even help it. I have the A Magazine curated by Rodarte and it's so beautiful—I love everything they do. The show was at Center 548 in Chelsea, which is the best NYFW location lighting-wise. James Kaliardos for Nars did the makeup, Sally Hansen did nails, and Odile for John Frieda did the hair. The coolest thing was pretty obvious here—pierced eyebrows??? They looked so ridiculous, but magical and romantic and beautiful at the same time.
The makeup was pretty tame for Rodarte, but definitely more bold than the rest of NYFW has been. It was a smokey moody bronze all over—bronze on the eyes and cheeks, and a really nice dark nude on the lips. The look didn't translate well on different skin tones though—what looked bold and intense on Aline Weber looked soft and barely-there on Riley Montana.
The hair was literally untouched—Odile admitted! Just down, relaxed, blow dried with soft texture, some kinks, and a nice side part. I'm really glad it wasn't slicked back—also girls with bangs didn't get the crazy eyebrow piercing thing, (un)lucky for them? I liked the nails too—they looked like ink in water, tie dye-ish, blue, and clear. I think the girls looked kind of Waterworld-y or Blue Lagoon-ish. I also had the chance to ask Aline about her hair! She was platinum for so long—one of the first models to really own that, and now she's this nice, soft, lovely, warm brown. She says red will be her next color. I'd actually love if all the girls who were platinum over the last few seasons went brown or red. Platinum hair and all these au natural, slicked back, easy looks is such a bad match, I think. But I'm just there to take photos.”
