It was something Ariana Papademetropoulos said recently that got us thinking about perfume territory: “A scent is so powerful—you think of someone, an ex-boyfriend or whatever, and it really resonates with you. So if your roommate starts wearing your perfume, it’s crossing a boundary.”

Is a fragrance you buy in a store ever really yours? Sure, the formula may be the same, but spray it on three different wrists, walk away, and return to find three drastically different scents. As is certainly the case with My Burberry, the brand’s latest offering. Immediately, it smells like a rose garden after a rain shower, with a fresh crispness you’d expect from a traditional brand like Burberry. But like those color-adjusting lip colors—or, fittingly, a classic trench coat—after wearing it around a bit, it develops into something unmistakably yours.
