'I’m an artist. I was trained as a painter, but I’m transitioning into design. My partner and I are also trying to expand our little boutique hospitality group; we have cabins for rent in Montauk, and we’re trying to get a motel or some old camps up there, as well. We want to create close getaway experiences for people living in New York and Brooklyn—more of an 'adults' thing, I guess. [Laughs]
This is [my daughter] Safi. She’s in the 18th percentile for height, but she’s on the skinnier side. She loves iPhones.
My beauty philosophy is very natural. I only use pure castile soap like Dr. Bronner’s, which is vegetable-based. I avoid aluminum, which most soap has, because my skin is so sensitive. I make my own skin oil from raw Shea butter, coconut oil, and vitamin E. I just make a big batch in a blender and it lasts me forever. I also love essential oils, like sandalwood and amber.
My hair is natural, too. I don’t really use any products in it, and I don’t do much to it at all, aside from braiding it. I keep it braided most of the time. It’s easy—I’m a braids person.”
