Can we just say that as much as we love ‘no-makeup makeup’ (and of course, it is extremely chic to appear as effortless as possible), we can really get into makeup- makeup. So, color us pleasantly surprised when backstage at our first show of the season, Jason Wu, we saw thick swathes of purple shadow illuminating the peepers of some our favorite ladies (Liu Wen, Cara Delevingne, Jessica Stam, and Catherine McNeil, among others). Starting off the week with serious makeup? Three cheers here, please! But first, Odile Gilbert applied Kérastase Elixir Ultime to the models' hair and gave them middle-parted, slicked-back, braided bun. “It was about being chic, elegant...Voilà!” Gilbert explained. “Modernity was very important, too.” Silver barrettes and a dousing of Kérastase Double Force Controle Ultime hairspray kept everything together (and had us contemplating a trip to Duane Reade for some Goody options): the effect was that of a bob mixed with a chignon.

As for that eye, well, Diane Kendal didn’t have to look far for colors, as Jason Wu—surprise!—worked with Lancôme to create the purple pigment used on his girls this season. Kendal lined the eyes with Lancôme Le Crayon Kohl in Purple Dusk, added some Liner Design Gel in Violet Stylista(for emphasis)with a clean brush, and then applied Wu's new Indigo shadow (all we've been told is that Jason Wu's Lancôme collection is “coming soon') into agraphic, exaggerated smoky wing. “Instead of a cat eye that's black, it's refreshing to have one that's a color. It doesn't feel so generic,” Kendal said. “The finale look is a dress made out of this purple fabric and Jason wanted to tie that color in. I think blue is going to be a trend for fall,” she added. (You heard it here first, kids!) “This color is more of an indigo-purple—it has that 'dual' feel to it, it’s not a true blue... It’s more interesting.” No shrinking violets here, that's for sure.
