How many lipsticks are in your rotation these days? And how many fall within the same shade family? You know, a bunch of nudes, reds, or pinks? An informal poll around the office confirmed that a good chunk of Glossier HQ folks are circuiting Manhattan with lipsticks in very similar shades, because it turns out the pursuit for the perfect red or the perfect nude will leave you with at least three dupes for Ruby Woo or Hepburn Honey always on your person. And then you get used to this color scheme, which is absolutely fine! But it’s fun to change it up every once in a while to keep things interesting. Come on! It’s not that hard… With the help of makeup artist Ingeborg, let’s get to two ways to dial up your lipstick game—with lip liner!

A gloss as visually satisfying as art deserves a proper frame—so that’s exactly what Ingeborg did. She started by lining Sabine’s lips with Face Stockholm’s pencil in Malena, and drawing Chanel’s Rouge Coco Gloss in Rose Tentation on top. Surratt Beauty’s concealer in shade 3 was lightly buffed over small areas of Sabine’s complexion that appeared uneven, and then a light wash of Lid Lacquer in Komugi (another gloss!) went on her lids. As for those cheeks! Credit goes to Soleil Tan De Chanel’s Illuminating Fluid and Le Blush Crème in Intonation.

Frost! Most certainly appropriate for the winter and the '90s, and plain old fun to experiment any other time. To get the chilled look, Ingeborg drew Face’s lip liner in Mimi around Sabine’s lips, and then put Kevyn Aucoin’s iridescent liquid lipstick in Blue Amethyst on top. Surratt’s Lid Lacquer hit the spot again on the eyes—this time in Satou Ume—and the deepest magenta from Viseart’s Orange/Violet palette came in handy for a blush contour à la decades yore.

Sabine wears a Welldone turtleneck, a Marcelo Burlon track jacket, Bing Bang silver hoops, a Tom Wood silver ring, and Jordache jeans.
