Well, less of a challenge (so many brands have gone cruelty-free these days), and more of an exploration of the breadth of cruelty-free beauty. We’ve got eyeshadow looks that’ll get you to play with color like a kid with a new box of crayons, pigmented lipstick that’ll last long after you’ve finished any impossible burger, and a black liner that really, really doesn’t smudge (hope you’ve got a good oil cleanser…).
ITG called up makeup artist Campbell Ritchie to assemble the looks, and Tom started clicking away. A happy bonus is that most of the makeup is also vegan. This is a kind editorial! Now let Tom, Campbell, and model Anna Mila Guyenz walk you through you how to put on...

What’s better than one eyeliner? Apparently three! Campbell prepped Anna’s with Dr. Barbara Sturm Glow Drops for a boost of natural-looking radiance, and then brushed Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation on top. But let’s face it, you came here for the eyes. For that Campbell was inspired by Pyer Moss’ Spring 2019 show and used Marc Jacobs’ Highliner in Matte Teal on the bottom, Mari(gold) smudged on top, and Iced in the corner.
The ultimate “no makeup makeup” look with a splash of color. With Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation already applied, Anna wore Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Clear Brow Gel as mascara, and Milk’s Kush Fiber Brow Gel as, well, brow gel. And then Campbell drew a simple line around Anna’s eyes with Marc Jacobs’ Highliner in (Pop)ular, and smushed Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick in Backstage Bambi on Anna’s lips.
Of course it’s Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Black. Campbell stuck with the black theme when it came to Anna’s lashes as well, choosing Inika’s Vegan Mascara. And then those cheeks were brushed with Chantecaille’s Philanthropy Cheek Color in Bliss, followed by Marc Jacobs’ #Instamarc Contour Powder under the cheekbones.
Glamour! Done with the kindest loot. Campbell started out by mixing Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder with Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint, first. Then she tapped on a bit of Malibu and Houdini glitter from Lemonhead on Anna’s cheekbones to add a bit of shine (and delight!). Next up: Charlotte Tilbury’s Eyes to Mesmerize in Cleopatra mixed with Danessa Myricks’ Colorfix Glaze on the eyes to get that shiny, vibrant, and highly dramatic shadow. And then she anchored it with Marc Jacobs’ Highliner in Out Of The Blue to add some depth. Danessa Myricks’ Colorfix in Phoenix went on Anna’s lips, which was capped off with Glossier’s Lip Gloss for some extra sheen. Casual, we know.
