Moms today don’t really look like the same moms we grew up with, do they? Take Lily Aldridge (see also: Kim K, Miranda, and Bey). Each has a sensibility suited to street style—but when they do break out the mom basics, the result is mildly remarkable.

Just as mom jeans enjoyed their normcore revitalization last spring, we predict a similar ascent to notoriety for the mom khaki—something along the lines of a culotte, with the free spirit of a flood pant mixed in for good measure. So, a moment for Lily: Victoria’s Secret model, wife to a rockstar, and early adopter of the trend. She was recently photographed heading to LAX in a fitted crop top and a pant that by all Gen-Y childhood memories defines the concept of comfort over style.

This is a pretty perfect look, albeit one that might take some skill to pull off successfully. First, find a trouser that hits mid-calf with a super high rise—it should be up to your belly button. Some suggestions for the task at hand: The Reformation and, you know, Chico's. Next, wear it with an abbreviated top; it could be a sliver short of the pant or a full-on longline bra, but this step is crucial. If the waistline’s not showing, you’re not doing it right. Best of luck, and enjoy all the newfound mobility, modesty, and ventilation a good mom capri provides. Thanks, moms.
