If there's one thing I love almost as much as beauty, it's vintage clothing. If my closet were filled entirely with tea-length 1940's floral print day dresses (OK, and the odd smattering of Phoebe Philo's Céline), I'd be a happy camper. So when Natalie Joos asked me—me—if I'd like my own "Tale" on her crazy-good blog Tales of Endearment, the answer was a resounding YES.

We started at my apartment early one Saturday morning (my "product table" was in particularly good order, thank God), resurrecting some of my favorite finds from over the years, and wound up taking the train to Connecticut for some frock hunting. We were the only girls walking down Greenwich Avenue in heels; two ducks out of water, no doubt. We tore through Sophia's Great Dames like a tornado—the clothes were flying. In fact, so was I: for one shot, I attempted several high kicks and on the third (and final) attempt, completely wiped out. Good thing we were on grass.

Such beautiful shots! Your vintage collection is very enviable - I particularly like that orange/apricot colour on you (sadly, not a shade I can pull off!).

  • HeyitsAlexp

I love that dress in the second to last image, I'm guessing it's Pucci?? And your product collection is just as lovely as those of the women you profile.

  • Elena

Holy Moly, you are beautiful! Wonderful shots, Emily. I want to know how you did that fresh-looking makeup..What was the foundation you used? Answers will be much appreciated!

Hi guys! Thank you for all the sweet comments. KT: Annn is right, the brush is from Bare Escentuals. It's for their mineral foundation but I've been using it forever as a blush brush--perfect for my favorite NARS 'Douceur'. I wore a couple lip colors that day: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 'Boy' is a sheer, neutral kind of gloss/lipstick hybrid, and the red (in some of the pics on Tales) is my go-to Tom Ford 'Smoke Red'. Elena, I use a few dots of Koh Gen Do's Aqua Foundation over a heavily moisturized face to get that fresh look. I think that's the trick with gets a bad rap but can be great in moderation, with plenty of moisture. Have a great weekend everybody! xE

Love love love reading your blog! I'm a skincare junkie and just an overall product fanatic so your blog is one of my faves! One thing I wanted to ask after seeing this post...was what is YOUR skincare routine?!?! Your skin is flawless and sooo fresh...! Love the outfits and makeup too! <3

  • LJ

Emily, you are gorgeous and fresh in these! How did you get that particular texture and shine in your hair? It's perfect!

    • admin

Thanks, LJ! To be honest...I'm always doing different things to my hair. On this day, before blow drying, I put Shu Uemura Art of Hair 'Ample Angora' mousse in it, and a little Bumble and bumble 'Texture' cream mixed with Shu Uemura Styling Cream in the ends. It's naturally stick-straight so it develops a little kink in it ('wave' would be a stretch) from taking it in and out of ponytails/buns/half knots all day long. xE

Very beautiful. The peach dress looks wonderful on you, and your hair looks perfect. This is why Into The Gloss is my favorite beauty blog.

Would be great if you could publish a "The Top Shelf" article about yourself, but I can understand if that would feel a bit weird since Into the Gloss is all about yourself.

  • Bee

You should do a post about your top shelf!

Emily, I wanted to thank you for the Ko Gen Do Aqua Foundation. I bought it per your recommendation. It is amazing and so soothing on my acne-prone skin. I use Chanel foundation brush to apply it and Cle De Peau Loose Poweder to set. I also got the KGD whipping net and face wash and love them! I am thinking of getting couple more of whipping nets and tucking them in my travel bag - such a simple and genius tool. I get so much wonderful soothing foam out of KGD face wash and also out of Cle De Peau face washes. Again, thank You!!!
