"On a normal night, I’ll be home eating with my kids. I like to eat on the early side, like 6:30. I like to have a Japanese whiskey when I get home. The Japanese make the most amazing whiskey—it’s very smooth, I love it. I like Nikka whiskey a lot, and Hibiki, as well, those are my two favorites. And then I like to light a fire and hang out with my kids—sometimes my boyfriend comes over. Homework, hanging out, someone asking me if they can buy something on Amazon, me saying no—just normal mom stuff. Dinner, bath. And I try to get in bed by, like, 9:30. I’m a pretty good sleeper. If I have a particularly stressful time, someone gave me some CBD oil in a little drop. It doesn’t make you stoned or anything, just a little relaxed.

I make time to take a bath every single night. I lived in England for a really long time, where the culture around bathing goes all the way back to the city of Bath. It’s the most beautiful city, but it’s also very cold, damp, and rainy, so a hot bath is really the remedy for an English winter’s night and I got in the habit. My London bathtub had a little fireplace in front of it—the dreamiest room. I’ve always kind of mixed my own ‘magic potions’ for the bath, and so I wanted to make them into an actual product. I think there’s just something very healing about like, grains of salt, and all the essential oils. I love aromatherapy. My favorite [essential oils] are ones that have been pre-blended—like a 'calming' blend, or whatever you need. I love the idea of that.

I just got [the Goop bath soaks], finally. For nighttime, either the G.Nite or the Emotional Detox. That one is really deep for me. There’s something about the way it smells—it really just takes the edge off. And I’ll always burn a candle—I like the Goop Edition 01 the best, it was the first one. Those are the scents that I always am drawn to—woodsy, kind of smoky scents. Tobacco, leather, and sandalwood. They’re evening-y scents. And I wanted them to be unisex, but synthetic fragrance is really not good for the endocrine system. You can just rub some patchouli oil on but that’s, like, one note. So I wanted to see if we could create something that was really sexy, and emotional…elevated but still all natural.

I actually don’t shut the world out when I take a bath. Sometimes I’ll be in there soaking and my kids will come in, and we’ll have a whole chat about school or whatever. [Laughs] But it’s just about getting in the hot water, and I do my skincare routine in the bath. So, I get in, and then I wash my face. I always use the Goop Cleanser and Instant Facial, and I let it sit. The Instant Facial is very tingly. It’s kind of a dual one—I put it on until my face is really pink, and then there’s a physical exfoliant in it, too. If you use a hot washcloth to take it off, that’s another exfoliant as well.

But, if I’m going to go out afterward, I’ll put on a mascara from Juice Beauty. Sometimes a little lip or cheek—I love Olio e Osso. I really like to wear a jumpsuit out because they’re cool, and they’re also dressed up. That’s sort of my favorite. But if I’m in for the night, I like pajamas. I really like this brand Sleepy Jones—they make really comfortable ones—and The Sleep Shirt is another brand that’s cute.

I really like going out with my old friends from childhood. Those are always my favorite nights. I had a great birthday a couple years ago, here in New York, where we all went out randomly dancing after dinner, and it was really fun. Some kind of '80s alternative music always puts me in a good mood. But before bed I like to watch TV, always. Lots of Netflix—The Crown, Mindhunter, or Forensic Files, which is a documentary about the science of forensics and—this is a little weird—really relaxes me before bed. I’m slightly worried about myself. [Laughs]"
