"When I first opened The Apartment—about five years ago now—it was after I’d gone back to art school. I had worked for Sotheby’s for over 10 years in Denmark and in London, and about the time I went back to school, I began advising individual clients on buying art and furniture. I found there was something missing…With art there were a lot of really good contemporary galleries, but in terms of furniture, there weren’t many of those kinds of spaces. And I thought it was limiting only being able to work with mood-boards and photos—I wanted to show [my clients] the real pieces!

My idea for The Apartment basically came up through this, because it’s just that—an actual apartment where clients can come in and look at each of the pieces I’m referring to. I’ve always found Swedish, Finnish, French and Italian design very appealing, and I wanted to put all these things together. I love when you can give vintage furniture new life, so we’ll often have pieces from the ‘30s, and then contemporary pieces, but I just bring in what I love—things that have a story, or things I believe you would continue to live with and could be passed on to someone else later.

BODY & SELF-CARE
I love to put lighting in the bathroom because I think it’s nice to have a space that’s clean and simple. I’ve always loved taking baths—no matter how small my bathroom or living space was, I would always prioritize the bathtub because it’s a place you can truly relax. Before a vacation, I’ll take a bath and do a scrub just to get the skin glowing. And then Pilates—I go twice a week to Copenhagen Pilates. For me, it’s where I really get to think my own thoughts and breathe in and out. I love when I’m leaving and I can feel that every single muscle has been worked and stretched. After a bath or a shower, I’ll use this lily water splash I got at this old Italian pharmacy, Santa Maria Novella. I’ll use that for fragrance in the summer, and then a cream—I really love the smell of Aesop creams, but I’m still trying to find some miracle cream that doesn’t dry my skin but also doesn’t leave it greasy.

HAIR
I have a hairdresser called Leon Scott who works out of his own studio and who I’ve gone to for years. I like that he makes my hair look natural in the way that he colors it—he pencils in the coloring—it doesn’t look too 'done' or fake. I have thick hair, so it’s nice to have someone who’s able to work with it. I wash my hair in the shower with an Aveda shampoo and conditioner, and then I love the Mason Pearson brushes. I’ll sometimes try to curl my hair a little bit to give it a wave—I use the GHD 1.5 inch, just on the ends, and then I’ll add a bit of Moroccan Oil, because it helps with the texture. It’s really nice.

MAKEUP
When I was very young my mother told me,'Don’t use makeup, you can use it when you’re older.' [Laughs] Mainly I think, I buy most of my beauty products when I’m traveling. I like to find somewhere there are a lot of things to choose from, because I like to have options. For instance, I use this Chantecaille Ultra Sun Protection SPF 45 and the Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer—they don’t feel too complicated. It’s pretty light coverage though, so if I need something more I use Chanel Le Blanc with Chanel Les Beiges on top. Or, the Chanel CC cream with Chanel powder on top, to help make it look a little more natural. The combination gives a pretty healthy glow. Then I’ll do Glossier Boy Brow in Blond, which I like because it’s simple, too. I use MAC Opulash mascara because it goes on light and gives length. And it’s easy to apply. [Laughs] Otherwise I really love lipgloss. Glossier’s Coconut Balm Dotcom is nice because it’s not too glossy and it stays.

SKINCARE
My approach to beauty has always been this very natural and very light makeup, but with a good amount of skincare, which I try to switch up pretty regularly. My skin is a bit dry, but my biggest challenge is that I blush very easily, so it’s redness that I am really focused on. In the mornings, I wash my face with the Avène Antirougeurs Cleanser—it’s not perfumed and it’s gentle. Right after the cleanser I’ll use this Ling Vitamin K Serum. I love the smell. On top of that I’ll do Avène Antirougeurs Emulsion and once a week I’ll do the Sisley Express Gel Mask because it’s fast and it really works to give your skin a nice glow. And I do change products out because I feel that the skin often gets too used to things. I have a very good friend who tests every product, so when I’m looking for something new I always ask her. I would love to have someone who could just come and advise me—I would love that!"
