Style Your Hair Before Bed, Sleep In A Little Later

Magazines will tell you “bedhead” is that undone, cool-girl hair that should take you less time than your mother's old-school blowout. This is a lie. Unless you are a supermodel, eight hours of rolling your hair around on a pillow will not result in “undone”—it just gives you “not done.” However, there is a workaround: styling tips that are meant expressly to be slept on, and once the alarm clock goes off, you're all set. In the spirit of sleeping in, team ITG polled the office (again!) on how they maximize the productivity of a full night’s sleep. Multitasking—it’s a beautiful thing.

Amelia Sabra, Customer Service Coordinator: "I never shower in the morning. Nighttime showers are where it’s at. After I shower, I brush through my hair with a boar bristle brush and mix together Bumble Grooming Creme and John Frieda Frizz Ease in my hands, applying through my damp hair with my fingers. Then I twist my hair up into a high chignon with an Invisibobble. These things look ridiculous, but they don’t leave kinks in your hair like your basic hair band. I go to sleep and then I wake up with perfect waves that have been described as 'Grecian.'"

Lauren Pepper, Senior Manager, Packaging Development: "Every night, I comb my hair through, and apply Bumble and bumble Prêt-à-Powder onto my scalp before bed. Then I put my hair is a low, loose braid. In the morning, all I need is a little Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. Makes my long hair fuller and a little more voluminous. Bada bing, bada boom."

Kim Johnson, Community Manager: "First, I put some argan oil in my hair, focusing on the ends because they get really dry. Once I’m in bed, I wrap a silk scarf around my hair to lay down the edges and then put on a silk bonnet—the joys of being single, ladies!—to prevent friction between my hair and my pillowcase. On a good morning, all I do is run my fingers through it and go."

Asa Bhuiyan, Customer Service Coordinator: "I have dry, thick South Asian hair, so I have to do a few things before bed. After I shower, I air-dry or blow-dry my hair, and then I’ll massage rosemary oil from Amazon onto my scalp to keep it healthy. I lightly coat my hair from the midpoint to the ends with Josie Maran Argan Oil and then braid my hair either in one braid or two to help avoid breakage. Also, I sleep with an Alaska Bear Satin Pillowcase to make sure my hair doesn’t dry out. Regular pillowcases dry out my strands. In the morning, I just curl it a little and spray some Batiste Dry Shampoo on my roots. Takes 10 minutes, tops."
