Which Foundations Are Best for Wearing in Photos?

For photos, you're going to want a foundation that doesn't have a ton of reflective particles or a high oil content. That way, you don't end up with a weird "ghost" effect from camera flash bouncing off your makeup or just end up the victim of the dreaded Shiny Face. Generally, any product that advertises itself as "HD" is probably a safe choice, since it will have been specifically designed for on-camera wear. The original (and most widely used) product in the category is Smashbox Liquid Halo HD Foundation. Their entire HD line is pretty reliable and worth the investment, though, so if you prefer powder or cream foundation, give the rest of the collection a look.

The Gloffice favorite is probably Sunday Riley Liquid Light Color Correcting Luminous HD Foundation—everything the brand makes just feels airy and beautiful, and the color correction is much appreciated when you're breaking out or experiencing winter redness.

If you want one-stop does literally everything makeup-skincare insanity, though, Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm is your ideal item. It's made for photos, but also probably other situations; we would't be surprised if it removed red wine stains and had an inflatable raft inside, too.

Avoid SPF in foundations too of course they often reflect white. I love Armani Luminous Glow, also Bobbi Brown foundations usually do well.

Dearest ITG Reader,

We're working on something new called Glossier. It's launching soon(!) and we want you to be the first to know updates.
