Things We Finish: Spring 2018

1

When you work in beauty, a big part of the job is trying out new products, no matter if you already have your favorite face moisturizer or red lipstick. Which isn't to say you can't have a few standbys, but the name of the game is experimentation: You're constantly moving from one product to the next to see what works and thus what's important to tell the world (i.e., you) about. It's a rare experience, then, to find yourself coaxing out the last drops from a moisturizer tube, or fumbling with a tiny stub of eyeliner. You gotta really love it. Hence this occasionally recurring feature: Things We Finish, in which we talk about the products that we spoiled beauty junkies squeeze, scrape, or shake 'til there's nothing left. Here are the beautiful empties we've refilled this spring:

LuLuLun Sheet Masks

Finished by Samantha Wilson, Community Coordinator
"My first encounter with this brand was as a gift from my friend Maxine, who snagged me a packet of 9 masks while in Tokyo. I used one immediately that night and panicked as soon as I looked in the mirror at my impossibly plump, glowing baby skin the next morning. Naturally, I ordered a pack of 32 (!!) individual sheet masks, which I am not embarrassed to share I blew through quite quickly. Some of those 32 masking situations were me sitting vertical on airplanes, horizontal on friends couches, in the passenger seat of a car, and in my home office. Def worth the 78 cents you pay per mask. Great find, Maxine."

Aveda Pure Abundance Style-Prep Spray

Finished by Eva Alt, Social Media Editor
Hello. This is #1 favorite hair product. I have pretty fine hair, but a lot of it—and this product does a few things when applied to wet hair fresh out of the shower: 1. Detangles (much more pleasant to comb through) 2. Volumizes (so my hair doesn't lay flat on my scalp) 3. Thickens. It makes my hair a bit grittier—like when it’s a little dirty, or has some dry shampoo in it and is generally less slippery. Wow! This product is a miracle."

La Roche Posay Toleriane Cleansing Gel

Finished by Tiffany Pham, Supply Chain Coordinator
"I absolutely LOVE this cleanser. I'm on my third bottle. I have oily, acne-prone skin and it cleanses my skin without ever stripping (I HATE that tight feeling). It's gentle enough that I can use it both morning and night, too. I love that it is pH balanced and contains ceramides, glycerin, and niacinamide to soothe and calm while it cleans. Another major plus is that it's super accessible—you can get it at Target or any drugstore. Seriously can't beat that."

Avène Gentle Body Scrub

Finished by Diarrha Ndiaye, Product Marketing & Innovation Manager
"To me, this apricot scrub is a trip to France in a squishy bottle. It puts in double work as a physical and chemical exfoliator and magically foams up when applied with a wash cloth. The formula is just the right amount of grit (enough to gently exfoliate elbows, knees, and heels) but not too abrasive for sensitive parts. It's lit, and it’s gone!"

Kiehl’s Olive Oil Fruit Conditioner

Finished by Tori Stringfellow, Paid Social Manager
"I actually found this conditioner in a Top Shelf and haven’t strayed since I started using it myself. Not only have I bleached my curly hair, but I also use heat tools on a near daily basis (I know, I know...). I repent on wash days with this conditioner, which leaves my hair feeling moisturized and soft again without weighing it down. I especially love it because it doesn't break the bank and you can buy it by the liter."

Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream

Lizzie Hanes, gTEAM Supervisor
"Last year, I started noticing shifts (breakouts, etc.) in my skin. I turned to Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped moisturizer night and day after my esthetician, Isabelle Bellis, encouraged me to stop using products with fragrance. It's the perfect weight for dry skin types plus it doesn't have fragrance (bonus: nice carrier oils). It's the best fragrance-free, 'clean' moisturizer I've come across so far. The downside is that it's quite expensive to replenish every month."

Agent Nateur No. 3 Deodorant

Finished by Abby Tonkin, Brand & Campaign Strategy Manager
"My family has been trying to get me onto the natural deodorant wagon for years, but it wasn't until I discovered Agent Nateur's No. 3 Deodorant that I finally got over my trust issues and threw my extra-strength drugstore stuff in the bin. This stuff honestly works better, has prettier packaging, and is a good excuse for a monthly trip to CAP Beauty."

RapidLash

Finished by Meena Butler, gTEAM Editor
"I bought RapidLash after my eyelash extension habit became far too expensive. I also tried Latisse and castor oil, both to no avail. I originally wanted to get GrandeLash but saw two swollen eye reviews, which was enough to deter me. I’ve been using Rapidlash since March and my lashes are way fuller and longer then before. It’s $29.50 on Amazon Prime! Buy it!"

Davines Oi All In One Milk

Finished by Halah AlQahtani, gTEAM Manager
"My hair is curly and frizzy and responds negatively to any 'frizz-free' products; think simultaneously oily and crunchy. I thought all was lost, but Davines’ Oi All In One Milk saved me. It’s super lightweight, not crunchy or sticky. Not only does it keep my hair frizz-free, but it defines my curls and helps my hair look (and feel) super natural, hydrated, shiny, and healthy. I have 3 in my bathroom because I am so worried I will run out one day. Also…don’t be afraid to drench your hair with it! A lot goes a long way."
