Person to know today: Annette Kellerman, a professional swimmer and one of the first women to not only wear a one-piece suit but also to attempt crossing the English Channel. After a few tries, she reportedly said, “I had the endurance but not the brute strength.” I feel similarly about bikinis—looking good in one for a full day at the beach takes a lot of bursts of extra effort. Posing for a photo becomes complicated. Boob adjustments happen frequently.
One-piece suits are attractive because you're at ease. I picked up my first one (Jantzen girl red, scooping neckline) a few months ago and haven't looked back since. I still have a stockpile of bikinis, but this guy feels so much more natural these days. It's easier to feel like yourself, and y'know, to swim, in a one-piece. But tell me—am I late to the game? Has everyone known this forever? One-pieces have clearly been around since way back, but something feels like they're getting cooler again. And it's cool with me that being comfortable is au courant.
Zeus + Dione Amorgos Two-Tone Swimsuit : Simple, striking, and the kind of thing you'd want to pack for a week in Croatia—or just to make your next trip to the Rockaways feel a bit more exotic.
Daisy & Elizabeth Astro Vixen One-Piece: A lace-up back, pictured here, is more lingerie drawer than poolside afternoon, but who said anything about that being a bad thing?
Her The Label Jac Swimsuit : High neck, super low back, super soft fabric. This is one of those pieces that leaves lots of room to accessorize, and it's also one of those pieces you'll be able to throw on and not think twice about.
Suboo Tangerine V One Piece : Saturated orange and angled panelling aside, the best part of this suit is that it's a simple cut that's oddly rare these days. It's a classic that's built for worry-, hands-free days, which are what every day should be, really.
Norma Kamali Slip Mio Swimsuit : Your body...is an abstract painting, thanks to this suit—arty black and white splotches, criss-cross back, and all.
