Some things are all about semantics. You could call your hair frizzy—or you could say it's intentionally messy. Similarly, there's traditionally painting your eye with shadow (sort of boring) versus accenting a naked eye with different textures like cream metallics, glitter, and the slightest pop of color. See? Much more interesting that way—we're elevating here.

All aside, eye accents, rather than your standard eyeshadow job, act more like an accessory to your face than run-of-the-mill makeup (even if you are wearing another great accessory, like a Margiela jacket). Focus on creating soft, blurred-out shapes with glimmering creams or a dust of glitter or architectural versions with shimmery pencils and milky, pastel-colored liquid liners. Let's break it down:

*First, for a little something architectural—

*
Lime Crime Eyeliner in Blue Milk has the perfect silky texture and an unbelievable color payoff. Draw a triangle-shaped cat eye on the outer corner of your eye. The graphic cat eye should dissipate into your middle lash line—disconnected. Then draw a line tracing your crease right above your eye socket extending to the inner corner of your eye. Sometimes when doing makeup, I think it's best to think of concepts instead of straightforward instructions. This look makes me think of a soft dash of light running across the eyelid. If that helps you get creative, the look is yours to play around with.

*On to metallics—

*
I love to play around with metallic creams, if only for the reason that it feels like you're applying gold leaf to your tear ducts. A gold cream like the shade Gold 004 in Make Up For Ever's Flash Palette captures light so beautifully and creates soft dimension. Simply dab the inner corner and outer corner of your eyes with the gold product on a Q-tip. Use your finger in a tapping motion to organically blend out two soft clouds that melt into your skin on each corner of the eye. Doing this in silver is also stunning as hell.

*And finally: There is such a thing as “Adult' glitter

*
We will never get over glitter. Bottom line. The real question (infinitely) seems to be how to wear this fairy dust and still look elegant—natural, even? I happen to be a Taurus, who loves all things luxury, so it's no surprise I gravitate toward Lime Crime's Zodiac Glitter in—what else?— Taurus. It also happens the perfect blend of moss, copper, and traces of charcoal glittered specs. Take your fingertip and gently press into the little tub of glitter and shake off the excess. When applying it to your eye, I want you to press your finger as if your leaving a finger print into your skin. My favorite placement is right in the center of your eyelid close to your lash line. Then mirror it right below your bottom lash line. Two dots like a moon reflecting off a California pool. This look is probably the most subtle of the bunch. Even if you're glitter-averse, you'd surprise yourself how wearable and beautiful it looks.
