A Thought On Freckles

A little bird told us recently that models with freckles don't get cast in beauty campaigns. So weird.

I LOVE freckles, I always wanted those cute light freckles all over my nose--instead I have like 10 random dark brown freckles on otherwise Albino skin haha. I don't mind them though.

Cintia Dicker is covered in freckles and I see her everywhere, but maybe she's the exception that proves the rule.

I guess it's because, most of the time, beauty companies are trying to sell products that even skin tone and make us like like plasticized versions of ourselves - so freckled skin is kind of anathema to that whole marketing ploy. I would love to have a face full of freckles - but I am reminded of all of the people who told me, when I was younger, that they'd love curly hair like mine... the grass is always greener!

      so true

    • ChelseaMM

I have curly hair AND freckles, and all I ever wanted was straight hair and even skin. The grass is always greener, indeed.

For the longest time I looked at my freckle covered face and never realised what made me 'ugly' and different, until one day I saw an ad for a foundation and realised that I should be seeing them as blemishes. Thankfully, I'm a rule breaker, and I've embraced them ever since!

    A freckle-faked face

    I think freckles are adorable!

  • fancies&beauty

I sometimes give myself fake freckles with an eye pencil due to my lack of. They are gorgeous and it's dumb that women who have them don't get cast but it is a finicky industry so I can see that happening.

EMBRACE YOUR FRECKLES. I have them all over my face, and I'm totally OVER trying to get rid of them.

  • Emily Knott

I have read about the freckle pencil and think it is a little amusing as when I was younger I hated my freckles! At least this is one beauty product I don’t need to add to my wish list!

    Two words.... KATE MOSS!

  • Daniela

As an owner and lover of freckles, I've never been able to understand why people try to cover them up - they are beautiful and unique! From a modeling standpoint, I see where it can complicate things in post-production. To remove them completely looks odd and trying to keep them in takes forever to get right....

On another note, people with freckles, especially those with darker features, always have the best skin. I was told from a young age to be grateful for my marks because I would be guaranteed a break-out-free youth. Thanks, freckles!

I suppose that if they're casting a model and not necessarily a celebrity, model or otherwise, freckles might be a deal-breaker. But I can think of Gisele, Emma Watson or Kate Moss, who all have freckles and nice beauty contracts.

A face without freckles is like a night without stars.

I love the effect of freckles! I wish I could get the faux-freckle technique down for summer!

  • Emma and Emily

I have tons of freckles and I have never not liked them. I always loved seeing them come out in the summer sun. I think even though they go in and out of 'fashion' freckles will always be cool! It makes people look more interesting.

When I was younger, I always hated my freckles and didn't understand why the other girls had such perfect skin. I tried to cover them up with heavy foundation etc. Now I love them, they are my special marks and they are the only part of my body that gets dark (darn ginger curse with my pale pale skin!)

This post was so clearly written by a non-freckled girl.

Oh really? You mean most companies embrace a standard of beauty that doesn't resemble me at all? A little bird probably told me that, too.

I have freckles and I love them. I think that's so sad!

  • Grace

i love my freckles! especially the little ones on the tops of my shoulders that show when i wear tank tops :)

  • Naomi Dowthwaite

I have the freckliest face going!
As a teenager I would put as much foundation on as possible (not a good look!) But now I'm older I don't put as much on and I get compliments, strangely a lot of the time by men to "what a natural beauty I am" - I wear foundation every day but you can obviously still see my skin and freckles so doesn't always look like I have a face full of make up on! I would love to see a make up brand use a freckly model for a change to show that make up can be full of coverage but with a more natural look!

Question: What's the difference between freckles and sunspots?
