Zelens Z-22 Absolute Face Oil

There are a number of creamy cleansers, hydrating masks, and heavy-duty winter moisturizers we could smother ourselves in when temps drop, but, rather than changing our entire skincare routines, what if we could just beef them up a teeny tiny bit?

Here's an idea: in the spirit of winter layering, give your skin that competitive edge by adding an oil to your moisturizing regimen. Right after washing your face, and before putting on your face cream, massage something slick (could be simply jojoba, avocado, or a store-bought blend) into your skin and watch your pores drink it up. We like Zelens Z-22 Absolute Face Oil because it’s truly hydrating and—thanks to the grease-fighting petitgrain oil—doesn’t make your skin shiny or slick, just plumper and more elastic. And unlike Dr. Pepper’s 23 flavors of mystery, its blend of 22 “precious oils” is actually listed, so you can rest assured that in addition to putting a barrier between you and the skin-chapping winter wind, you're also protected against things like UV damage, free radicals, redness, and sagging. Plus it smells warm and citrusy, like how Harry Brant's vacation photos look.

This oil looks fantastic! I have just checked the product composition and it looks super highly concentrated of only botanical goodness!

I am quite a fan of rosehip oil. You can know why here :-)

i just started doing this! my face was so dry from the winter; the skin around my nose and hairline was peeling and flaking (gross, i know). i thought a face oil would help so i tried the fresh seaberry one. i love it so much i have to restrain myself from applying it several times a day.

I've read that face oils should go on after moisturizers, in order to lock in the moisture.. Are they wrong? Should I switch the two around?

      Hi Shannon,

I think it depends on what kind of oil you're using. Some oils are made up of bigger molecules than others, and are thus not meant to be absorbed, but instead act as an additional barrier for your skin. I prefer to apply Zelens Z-22 right after the shower while my face is still steamy for maximum absorption. I hope that helps!

I'm obsessed with Kiehls, and I own the Midnight Recovery Concentrate and the Ultra Facial Moisturizer. On the suggestion of the Kiehls lady at the store, I started mixing 3 or 4 drops of MRC with a pea sized amount of UFM, and then putting that as lotion on my face. AMAZING against winter elements =)

Love a good facial oil. A while back, I started using them and it makes me feel like such a grown up. I put a post up with my facial oil routine, give it a read if you can…
