Say what you will about Goop, but its creator, Gwyneth Paltrow, who turns 41 tomorrow,  has more or less redefined “living the dream.”  Think about it: she’s an Oscar-winning actress, perpetual style icon, mother of two, wife of a musician who created the perfect song for distraught TV montages, owner of an impossibly fit bod (Tracy, teach us), and counts Brad Pitt as an ex. She's also a chef, gardener, and consumer of Mario Batali’s homemade treats. Perhaps most importantly, she is best friends with Beyoncé and Jay-Z. She also frequently discusses her nether-region grooming habits with Ellen. So if nothing else, she's a good time.

Gwyneth made us cry with her Oscar speech [1]; blew our minds with butterfly-effect possibilities in Sliding Doors; made us consider doubling down on his & her color and cuts [10]; embodied the moody, glamorous, and tortured woman we all have inside somewhere in The Royal Tenenbaums; and continues to live an impossibly awesome life, wherein she eats mostly local-vegan-organic yet smokes one cigarette a week. Happy Birthday, Gwyneth. You don’t look a day over...great.

i love you, ITG, but come on - you don't actually consider gwyneth paltrow a "perpetual style icon", do you?

on another note, jude law looks so pretty in that picture.

  • Farhan

I'm obsessed with Gwyneth. Always have been. I can't get down with all this Gwynnie hate that's happening in the media. I mean, LOOK AT HER. She's the coolest.

  • Chantel

    I love Gwyneth Paltrow!

  • hollygoeslightly22

Say what you will about Gwyneth, but she's beautiful and interesting. I appreciate her ongoing effort to improve her health and lifestyle.

Style icon? Yes. The woman knows what works on her body and continues to select classic looks with clean lines. She looks amazing.

One cigarette a week, non? Nevertheless, all hail GP

  • bluesky557

She is a crazy, delusional nutjob and I LOVE HER SO MUCH.

  • Roxana Phillips

    who hates gwyneth?!

    • kneelbeforetigers

Hands up right here. I find her really one note and uninteresting. And she flaunts her privilege like a badge. No bueno for me.

  • Jacqueline Fonte

my favorite part of her look is that her skin always has pores. girlfriend never looks spackled.

i love her brand of crazy. one ciggy per week! huzzah huzzah!

  • Peet

Looks like Heidi Klum in some of them. Specially #29.. and #35.

  • Maggie Winterfeldt

I'm a huge Gwyn fan! I love her timeless, uptown girl style, clever entrepreneurial ventures, and rock star social life. My fav pics are of her in The Talented Mr. Ripley; the preppy 50's clothes, glowing tan skin, summer blonde locks--she had a Grace Kelly glow to her!

  • babs

I don't really like Gwyneth Paltrow, but I LOVE the barely-there make up that she made/makes look so glamorous.

  • Behind the Mirror

I will say for someone who comes across pretty bland, she sure does evoke some conversations... I put up a post about changing your look/beauty often and she was someone I posted after I saw this. If you have some time I would love you to check it out...

  • bitch_face

oh i didn't realize she and madonna would get blazed together. points!

Hmm. Gwyneth. I've followed her style forever (I've commented on my obsession with her makeup/hair in Great Expectations and A Perfect Murder) - and my thoughts on Carolyn Bessette (love her). That whole '90s esthetic. But...I know why so many people dislike her ("hate" is not a good word for anything/-one). When she opens her mouth, she sometimes comes off as such a snob. I get it, she grew up privileged but it's never nice to keep saying dumb things (even about cheese, for crying out loud; and does Jay-Z mind that she mentions him in every single interview?). Lauren Bush grew up privileged, Dylan Lauren, and so did the Courtin-Clarins sisters, but they come off as so thoughtful and kind.

I really like this post, though. I love GPs hair and mostly her makeup (I always remember her favorite lipstick in the '90s was Stila's "Kate." Then LM "Pink Grape" in A Perfect Murder. I had to run out and get both.

    Thanks ITG!

    Gwyneth with a cigarette??? Wow!

I think she's amazing, I have to say. She's beautiful, intelligent and seems to have a HUGE heart.

Dearest ITG Reader,
