It’s no secret that we love French women. Their approach to style, their approach to life, their carefree, we’re-amazing attitudes are all things we strive to adopt stateside. And does anyone embody the Gallic girl-code better than Carine Roitfeld? Mais non. Let's take a moment to consider Carine, and with good reason: the former Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris, current editor of CR Fashion Book, Mario Testino collaborator, Tom Ford muse, and the newly minted grandmother turns 59 today. Happy Birthday, Carine, you fox!
To celebrate this milestone (and feed our own Francophilia), we unearthed some of the editor's best moments from yesteryear. If you, like us, still find yourself in need of more Carine, more French women, more leather and lace, and much, much more black on black on black, you’re in luck (if you live in New York): Fabien Constant’s Carine documentary, Mademoiselle C, opened in the city last week and goes nationwide on September 30! And, if our slideshow doesn't convince you of her icon status, Kayne West thinks she’s super cool, and that is saying a lot, right?
So, as CR toasts to 59, we’ll be brushing up our language skills ("c’est pas magnifique!") and preparing for a quick trip to Paris—including, obviously, a pit-stop at discount-drugstore mecca Citi-Pharma—for Fashion Week. Carine, if you’d like to give us a quick tour of the town while we’re there, or even just split a slice of millefeuille at Flore, we're down. (You don't have to give us your answer now; just think on it.)
