Not to age ourselves, but it’s been 15 years since we were first introduced to Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte (and—could it be?—NINE since Sex and the City left airways). In lay(wo)man’s terms, that translates to plenty of time to identify yourself as one of the four ladies who brunch.
While the three ancillary characters have so many beaming qualities (career drive, sex drive, manners), we're guessing that you align yourself with the singular Ms. Bradshaw. Wouldn’t we all prefer to be the protagonist, the omniscient narrator of our friends’ lives, the risk taker, and, clearly, the most stylish (ed note: even now, as we type this hypothetical question into a mac laptop and gaze out a window overlooking Manhattan, we're have trouble not picturing ourselves wearing a Carrie gold necklace)? Not that each of the girls didn’t always look impeccable, no matter how disheveled—for this we can thank legendary costume designer Patricia Field—but Carrie really wore it best, even if it was just denim overalls in Suffren mud .
Perhaps it was Sarah Jessica Parker’s impressively-put-together-while-still-chicly-unkempt hair (the wild mane with which we began season one , the brand new cut for Vogue in season four , the obvious roots at the court house in early season six , the perfect curls for the Paris finale , etc.), or her habit of high kitsch ensembles , or even her affinity for Prada and Manolo, but it was SJP as Carrie Bradshaw that had everyone redesigning their wardrobe (cut to the oversized-flower pin trend of 2000). Most lack the moxie to venture outside a ballet class in a tutu , but not Carrie. Hot pants, a knit tube top, an overcoat, and heels ? Fuhgeddaboudit. And as much as we might internally identify as an uptight uptown girl, a sex-crazed powerhouse, or a strong-willed, independent woman, Carrie was all of these women depending on the heel height (or the episode). Go Big or go home, right?
