Whether due to Lindsay Lohan's antics or the People of the Internet hissing that gingers have no souls (seriously...), it can be hard out there for a redhead. As our writer-in-disguise, Molly Young, notes in "Undercover Redhead," the hair color occurs only in 1-2% of the population, and the remarkable few who do don the hue have us wondering: why the lack of love? To this end, we've gathered all of our favorite gingers (natural-born and those who got a little help from a bottle, or two) to remind us all that red can be really hot. From the queen of them all Grace Coddington and her British Isles red, to Milla Jovovich's The Fifth Element carrot tint and Rihanna's fire-engine coif on the cover of Vogue, to shades reminiscent of a certain underwater Disney princess and the strawberry-blond of Ann Margaret, there's a red for every gal (and guy). Inspired to join the club?

    AWESOME.

Karen Elson, forever and ever. Amen.

  • amelia

Ann- Margret, Julianne Moore and Christina Hendricks - all worthy of major two-syllable 'damns'. but everyone in this slideshow was gorgeous.

I am a natural red head (auburn to be exact) I think the "no love" may come from that we have been known to have a temper at times. Not saying all redheads do, but I know I can from time to time.

    • Stella

Uh, pretty much everyone has a temper from time to time. The claim that one's temper somehow correlates to one's hair color is ridiculous and unsubstantiated.

Ah this makes me want to embrace my bleached to within an inch of its life red-ish hair...

  • Lara

I think jessica chastain and juliana moore are two of the most beautiful women of our times.

  • Scully

I cannot believe that Gillian Anderson's Agent Scully didn't make this list. She is the redhead of late 90s.

  • Emma

Jessica Chastain. Absolute favorite redhead/one of the most beautiful women ever!

  • Crebs

I've always wanted to rock red hair, but I have tan, Asian skin. :(

  • Cat

Julianne Moore... I want to age like her. She's impossibly gorgeous. Redheads are great, I was one for a while but then let my dark chestnut roots grow and chopped it all off.

  • Lana

Ugh. so over Jessica Chastain. I know I'm the only one.

    • grey_grey

      no you're not!

  • Anne

MJ Watson was such an awesome character; she made me want red hair until the age of 15 when I realized it might not look so great with my brown skin.

One of my goals in life was to become Taylor Tomasi-Hill until I realized I'm merely me and that isnt't changing (thus, we must embrace what we've got, no?). If not for her ability to put together a crazy-good outfit, then for her amazing, red hair. She keeps her salon a secret for good reason. Perhaps she will be a candidate for a forthcoming Top Shelf?

    AXL!

Awesome. Jessica Chastain, Cintia Diker, Karen Elson, Jessica Joffe, Christina Hendricks. My redhead inspirations.

In college I had a seminar class with a girl who had gorgeous long, untouched hair in the exact shade as Taylor Tomasi Hill's (admittedly great) dye job. Strangers were constantly complimenting her and asking if it was real. As for me, I often had to sit behind her, which then tended to mean I'd spend the entire period somewhat enviously contemplating her mesmerizing natural color. It was THAT traffic-stopping.

Now, she was pretty brilliant, and in retrospect I feel bad for not paying more than partial attention to what she was actually saying. (Too distracted by the shiny!) So maybe it's not that redheads don't get love, but that they get too much of it? For their hair, not all the other great things they may be or do? Dunno, I'm just a lifelong brunette taking a wistful little stab at it.

  • Carole

I've always dreamed of being a redhead, too bad...

I have wanted red hair for as long as I can remember, but I'm too... Low-maintenance? Lazy? Cheap? too get it properly colored. When I see a natural red-head I am so jealous that I actually feel resentful. To effortlessly have something so unique that makes you stand out in the crowd?! No fair!
So basically what I'm saying is, they're just jealous.

any suggestion on how to be a red-head and reduce the redness in the face that the hair brings out? whenever my hair is red, i don't even bother with blush because the hair color brings out the red in my skin... but sometimes i think it brings out little too much... i realize how ridiculous i sound but any suggestions?
