If we learned anything from the '90s, it was that high school's tough, whether you're the jock, the cheerleader, the goth, the band geek, the nerd, the theater kid, or an entirely new cliché, like, for instance, the witch. No, not wiccans (who else had some at their school? Bueller? No?), but real life, full-blown witches—warlock father, talking cat, etc. Welcome to the life of Sabrina Spellman.
Don’t get us wrong, Vampire Diaries is set on our DVRs, but there is something missing from today's supernatural TV...something from the family-friendly and oh-so-90s world of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch. Sure, it may not have been the conventional “American family” (she lived with her 600-year-old aunts), but Sabrina, Hilda, Zelda, and Salem the cat were all the company you needed for a Friday night (TGIF!) on the couch. Plus, who didn’t have a crush on Harvey? What. A. Babe.
It's hard to believe it was ten years ago this week that we said our final goodbyes to Sabrina and co., as the seven-season favorite ended its glorious run in April 2003. The show defined late '90s/early aught girl style (note the spikey hair, fake-tattoo necklaces, and awkward short sleeve—sometimes sheer—button-up blouses) and even scored an appearance by the Princess of Pop, AKA one of our favorite human beings ever. If Meg Ryan was America’s Nineties sweetheart , Melissa Joan Hart was a close runner-up—we fell in love with her as Clarissa, but she worked her magic as Sabrina.
Sadly, gone are the days of the killer TGIF lineup (Boy Meets World?! Family Matters?! Step by Step?!!!!!!) but, in memory of our beloved witch and her friends, let’s take a look back at her best style moments.
P.S. We love cats here at ITG as you all have noticed, and while we think it be so much cooler to have one that could talk, it's a bit weird that a teenage girl shares her bedroom with a hundred-year-old warlock who once tried to take over the world and was sentenced to a century as a feline, right? But whatever, minor detail…
