Coachella Round One begins this weekend out in sunny California. To all of you lucky people trekking to the desert to see a fairly epic roundup: we are officially jealous. And to those of you (/us) who aren't, well, we don't really know what to tell you... We won't get sunburnt? Though we may be well past the days of flower power and free love, be sure to expect many an interesting look out on the Empire Polo Club fields this year—after all, music festivals are a time to experiment with style (and, apparently, with various states of undress). Unkempt waves topped with a floral arrangement or headband is a safe way to fit in with the crowd. A bit obvious, maybe, but no matter! If there will ever be a time to adorn your crown with baby's breath, it is while swaying to the trippy tunes of GRIMES. If you're allergic to flora (first of all, godspeed to you, galavanting in the great outdoors), you can always make like Diane Kruger [21] and Emma Watson [14] and twist your hair into a loose side braid. Or, try a new hue (purple? pink?) altogether. As you can see from the slideshow above, it's all about a D.I.Y. 'do.

Check out our favorite open-air, mega-hippie hair moments, and (hopefully) get inspired to be a bit more free-spirited with your mane when the music-fest circuit kicks off. (Can't make it to Coachella this weekend or next? There's always Bonnaroo, Ms. Moss' fave Glastonbury, and Lollapalooza.) If you are going to be galavanting in the desert, may we gently urge you to pack your highest SPF, a bottle of Bumble and bumble Surf Spray, plenty of H20, hand sanitizer...we'll stop. Just get ready for the music to take you away! An alternate weekend plan: watch Robert Adam's infamous Rolling Stones documentary, Cocksucker Blues. It's a fool-proof way to get you in the rocking spirit, whether you're in SoCal or your shower.

This is probably one of my favorite articles. I wish for nothing more than to be at Coachella this weekend. With my highest SPF and such, of course. Unfortunately, for the millionth year in a row...I can't make it. And I don't know anyone on my side of the nation who'd go with me anyway. Alright, before this sounds depressing I'll stop. But I wish those who are going the most amazing musically lifting time ever! I know this year will be one to definitely remember!

This could be the start of a great coffee table book! As I can't make the festival circuit, nor get away with tiny denim shorts, I shall be staying home, watching Almost Famous and dancing to rock n roll in my lounge!

I feel like music festival dressing has always translated to "how to look gorgeous whilst messy," and it's a look that I have never been able to pull off - when I look messy I just look messy. Also, picture of Kate Moss with heart purse - GIANT BUM in the background.

Great article! The key is to look effortless. I've seen some people who were way overdressed for music festivals (Heavy makeup? Jeffrey Campbell boots? NO.), and hell, I judged them. Also, no native american headgears, please.

Btw, not sure if this is just my browser acting up, but it would be great if you have a scroll button for the image thumbnails!
