Violet Eyes: Chanel Inmitable Intense and Guerlain Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash Mascaras

Having violet-colored eyes has always been an [iris/melanin-related jackpot] indication of great beauty (consider Elizabeth Taylor's pair, topped by her doubled set of lashes, a genetic mutation, to boot), but what of violet-hued eyelashes?

I'm not one to stray from the thin black liner/thick black fringe combination, at the risk of looking like I got lost on the way to a rave. Or at least, that’s what I thought, until I started picking up on what the industry’s putting down, i.e. Guerlain’s Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash Mascara and Chanel’s purple Inmitable Intense, both in aubergine-enough—meaning, mellow brownish-purple—shades that pick up any flecks of green or gold in my iris like nobody’s business. No scary-kiddie tints, and the wands are those spiked-plastic ones that I love (for premiere lash-grabbing). As for the color, it melts into and around the natural dark shade of your eyelash for just a subtle hint of intrigue, to keep those eyeballs coming back your way... at least until you're able to grow another layer of lashes, like good ol' Liz.

Benefit's plum mascara is another grrrreat one.

I LOVE that one, I wear BADgal plum almoust every day! Or Benefit they're real with the lum on top.

This reminds me: When I was a teen, Charlie(!) made this color mascara. I used it as liner for my lower lid by globbing a bit under my eye and using Love's Lemon creamy cleanser to wipe most of it off with a qtip. This left the loveliest hint of aubergine between my lashes.

YSL makes great coloured mascaras too.

I'm very interested in that violet Chanel; it would be beautiful with violet eyeshadow for a night out.

I've been wearing Dark Purple Binq mascara for a couple months and I love it. It just looks like black until you're in direct sunlight, then it adds just enough interest.

Oh man, I am SO trying this. The Guerlain looks way more intense than the Chanel. Which one do you like better? Does the Chanel actually read as 'color'? Does the Guerlain read a bit too much 'color'?

I prefer the wand on the Chanel (the inmitable intense wand is just kind of killer, though I maintain mascara is pretty subjective-- I tend to prefer the more comb-like bristle-based type) and the color is there, but is definitely a more black-based "plum" (which, considering my eyelashes are super dark, and I am hesitant to abandon black altogether, suits me better), but the Guerlain, which is more of a "lilac," doesn't read as "too much." It was pretty subtle on me, and later Elizabeth (who has quite light eyelashes) tried it and it looked verrrry pretty. Highly recommended. x

Thanks for the reply! I think the Chanel sounds really promising, I will probably give that one a go first. Totally intrigued now!

I love the violet Guerlain Maxi Lash! Lately, I've also been partial to Chanel's Le Volume de Chanel in "Prune". As much as I love Chanel's Inimitable formula, the formula and more importantly, the WAND of Le Volume de Chanel is the killer.

This is old news! I've been in love with Dr. Hauschka's aubergine volumizing mascara for years- it's my daily one. (Violet works so well with light eyes!)

I really loved the Chanel Inimitable in Black ...if you are into violet try the YSL one...AMAZING =)

I'm really loving the idea of coloured mascara for summer. That violet shade from Guerlain is stunning! :)
