The dog has, for ages, been known as man’s best friend. But in recent years, felines finally got their due, in no small part thanks to YouTube. Cats are unequivocally the kings of the Internet. Whether by highlighting the species through the video-sharing site, or posting about them on the somewhat dorkier—albeit possibly more addicting—site, Reddit, our society has clearly been aiming to revive the Ancient Egyptian practice of worshiping the cat as a god.*

The love of cats is neither exclusive to the Internet nor one that has been renewed solely thanks to social media. The cat, be it of the cartoon [2], animatronic [22], or live action [10] variety, has been gracing screens both big and small since there were screens, period. And perhaps the most celebrated cats around were the ones that dominated Broadway between 1982 to 2000, in the second longest-running show in history, Cats [15]. Mr. Mistoffelees, I mean, come on!

But back to Throwback Thursday. When we read that producers of the new Broadway production of Breakfast at Tiffany's were currently searching for a real, live cat to act opposite Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, we thought we'd offer up our casting services. We searched the ITG archives, our fondest childhood memories, and Google to find a slew of feline options to suit whatever 'look' the Breakfast at Tiffany's crew is going for. Please note: some options have had previous gigs and may not be available for the demanding hours of the theater. Anyway, here are our top choices for the role of "Cat," Holly Golightly’s aptly named housemate.

(And because there is no such thing as "wasting time" watching a cat video...)
