We’ve all taken a spill. Whether from encountering an awkward crack in the sidewalk, a random momentary loss of balance, stepping on a banana peel (like the cartoons would have you believe), or maybe it was because you were wearing a jean skirt and walking up the steps to school as a high-school freshman with your crush standing at the top, not picking your feet up high enough, and rolling down the stairs with your skirt climbing higher and higher with each step... What? That isn’t a common occurrence? Huh. In any event, the point is: it happens to everyone. That said, you're in a much smaller club if your fall was witnessed by 40.3 million viewers and occurred right after winning your first Oscar at the ripe age of twenty-two.
In a moment that instantly became GIF-ed to death, Jennifer Lawrence’s career- (and life-) making Best Actress win was tainted by her blunder on the just-waxed steps of LA's Dolby Theater on Sunday evening. And instead of letting it become the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to her, she somehow managed to make it perhaps her most charming incident to date. She inspired countless Tweets, Facebook posts, and Buzzfeed articles discussing her appeal and pointing out our collective desire to be her best friend. As she held her crumbled stance on the steps in that unwieldy Dior gown for one extra beat, she became one of us. Whether she was thinking of a "bad word beginning with the letter ‘F’" or letting the excitement of the last few months sink in, we, the viewers, were reminded that she is still just a person who occasionally falls down, no matter how inopportune the scenario. Jennifer, we love you. Please, please, come hang out with us. We’ll do your hair and nails.
