Kate Upton’s Fashion Mag Sweep

Sure, we’ve seen a lot of Kate Upton—both figuratively and literally (remember Emily's shoot with her for Love?). And then came Kate's Terry Richardson bomb-pop and bikini cover for July GQ [2], and her baby-chick cuddle for the first edition of CR Fashion Book [3], not to mention her Steven Meisel shoot [4] for November American Vogue, which dubbed her "The New Girl." But maybe the best example of her ever-expanding range to date: covering the November issues of both Cosmopolitan [5] and Vogue Italia [1] (again, shot by Meisel).

Not bad for a girl who popped into fashion’s consciousness by nearly popping out of her bikini on the cover of Sports Illustrated [6]. Here at ITG, we’re all about surpassing expectations. Get it, girl!

    She isn't really "surpassing expectations." In most of these pics, she's still just "popping out" of whatever she's wearing. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, but I think she's getting a whole lot of undeserved credit as far as being considered a versatile model...

    I just don't get the fashion hype surrounding this girl. Physically, she has a lot going for her, she is totally beautiful and desirable, but she lacks that certain something we see in other blond bombshells such as Lara Stone and Claudia Schiffer. Could it be the lack of mystery or the absence of restraint? I can't put my finger on it but I don't exactly feel nourished by photos of her. Wait! Maybe I'm just jealous of her awesome body! Naaa..

    Her smile is so GUMMY. Not attractive. The only thing interesting about her is seeing the magic of makeup artistry on full display and it's ability to transform her very average face into something beautiful. But it is only slight of hand. The makeup artists should really be the one's we are applauding, not her. Will never understand the hype surrounding this girl; one can only hope she will fade quickly as people tire of this one trick pony and her smoke and mirrors.

    If she stuck to shoots like the Vogue Italia one then I'd be a big fan, she looks incredible with the wave and the lips but her bikini stuff just makes her look so common.

    What I don't get is these comments. The majority want to tear her down for being curvy and beautiful. If you feel the need to pick anyone apart that much, you're jealous and bitter. I wouldn't say I'm a fan, but I notice her looks and can understand why she's so attractive to a lot of men AND women.

      I don't necessarily agree with the hate either, but I don't think that's what being displayed here. I get what they mean. I think she's very pretty. I think these 'haters' think that too. I don't think anyone can deny that. The thing is A LOT of models are pretty. Compared to a lot of them, she's not that special look-wise.

      All the great supermodels have something special about them, something very unique to each of them. Miss Upton seems to lack that. Sure, she has an amazing body, but again, a lot of girls / models have that too. Most of these comments aren't saying she's ugly or fat. They're just saying that they don't get the hype.

      I personally think her seemingly-unspecial look is not such a bad quality. She's the relatable girl next door. Plus, she's successful COMMERCIALLY first and foremost. GQ, Cosmo, Sports Illustrated? These aren't exactly your monthly fashion bibles. Of course there's Vogue but Vogue does shoots of celebrities too, meaning they don't exclusively only feature high fashion models. Still I say, good for her. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but as long as they actually have an opinion about her, that has to mean she's doing one or two things right, right?

    I know that she is super sexy and goddess-y and whatnot, but whenever I see a picture of her I just think that she is such a cutie-pie. Maybe this is me being patronizing because she's younger than I am and I think it's a little weird, but she is seriously adorable.
