Takin’ It To The Streets

Maybe it's withdrawal from a recent trip to L.A., but apparel-designer-turned-bloggeuse Jayne Min's Céline-inspired decks on Stop It Right Now have us wanting to learn how to skate. Or to learn how to talk about it without sounding like a complete poser. Or, at the very least, to hang them decoratively all over ITG HQ.

Min, who just got a shout-out in September Vogue for her boards, e-mailed us to talk about how (and when) inspiration struck:

“I had just moved into a new place and was thinking of what I wanted to put up on a wall. I was going through my collection of skateboard decks and I really just wanted one that was more graphic and clean. I thought of how the CÉLINE print from SS11 would be so perfect and then I just decided to put it on a deck. It was an homage to my two loves— skateboarding and Phoebe Philo! I got into skateboarding in junior high because of my brother... I was never any good but I grew up in the community and it shaped everything about who I am today. Sometimes the commercial usage of it nowadays is pretty funny, but overall I’m happy that the industry is growing. I just want it to thrive!”

Another famously stylish femme-on-wheels? Katherine Hepburn (in 1967), but of course.

I've always had a secret desire to be a super cool skater girl but alas it's gone unfulfilled. Her pants are so amazing; they make her legs look crazy long.

I second this wholeheartedly! She's completely inspirational and at the same time, absolutely accessible. To see one of my favorite fashion bloggers on my favorite beauty blog would be so so awesome.

Had no idea Katherine Hepburn was a skateboarder! She looks totally rad and, of course, completely stylish skating in those wide-leg trousers :)
