There’s plenty to love in the Juergen Teller-lensed fall Céline campaign (the flamingos, the dark-cherry jacket), but it’s Daria Werbowy’s short, milk-chocolate chop that warrants a double take.

Über-creative Dutch hairstylist Christiaan (just Christiaan…or Mister Marvelous, according to Byredo’s Ben Gorham, who recently collaborated on a cologne with him) coiffed Werbowy for the ad, and shares the story—complete with process shots!—exclusively with ITG:

“Daria texted me in feb

wanna cut it now

ok come over

long dead hair

ready to lose it

months earlier in st barth

she shaved the nape with me

that was now bleached and a few inches long

braided and separate

left that alone

rest just shagged up and around face

chin length

so she was left with fresh hair

a tousle on top

instead of on the shoulder

she took a while to own it

but no one dared to put her in extensions

that brought her the confidence back”
