I agree with Dee, the "she-looks-good-for-her-age" bit isn't really a compliment at all; it's more of an underhanded insult! (No offense to anyone here personally.) Why can't a woman just be told she looks great (no mention of age necessary)? If you tell a friend (or coworker, or stranger for that matter) that she looks great today, and genuinely mean it, it can really perk her up and I know for me, seeing how it can really lift that person up makes me feel good as well. Also, in my experience, those who are the most uncomfortable accepting compliments are those who need them the most. My sister was that way and Ireally regret that I didn't tell her every single day just how beautiful she was.

I agree with previous posts regarding L Santo Domingo and JRR. I mean Lauren has that typical American attitude when it comes to being privileged and semi-famous. She wants to show the world that she is not just an average girl but was born with a silver spoon in her mouth (and then married into an even more privileged family). Julia seems to have just an honest and somewhat relaxed take on it all... I mean, she is the daughter of one the most powerful women in fashion (who by the way also grew up privileged in the 16th in Paris) but she still admits to having grey hairs and talks about buying regular mascaras from the drugstore... She is so much more classy. She doesn't need that Paris Hilton bimbo behaviour and she knows it. That makes her so much more likeable! (And enviable! what with the designer wardrobe, fashion parities and superhot Swedish boyfriend:)

Great post...thanks for sharing this interview with Julia. I find it so much more down to earth and easy to read than the last one with Lauren Santo Domingo. Someone like that, I have to admit, I'm only interested in seeing photos of but not read interviews with. Not because I think she has no substance, but her life is just SO far removed from the rest of us, it's hard to read.

On the contrary, I'm surprised at how REAL Julia is. For someone with a famous mother and well known in her own right, she's unbelievably like the (French) girl-next-door. I love her little comments about DIY beauty and money saving products...definitely someone the average reader can at once relate to AND aspire to be.

She sounds pretty sincere, not spoiled at all. I'm going to have to check out
some of those products. I like how she's not obsessed with exercise and
actually does it on her own. I wonder what she eats. She'd probably be an
interesting candidate for one of those New York Diets from NY Mag.
